Juanping "Angie" Shi
October 4, 1969 - February 14, 2026

Juanping “Angie” Shi passed away on February 14, 2026, at the age of 56. She was born in Yuyao, China, on October 4, 1969, and carried with her a deep love for family, resilience, and kindness throughout her life.

In 2001, Angie immigrated to Canada with her husband and young son, first settling in Vancouver, British Columbia. With only a few suitcases and tremendous courage, she and her husband began building a new life from the ground up. Their journey took them to Fredericton, New Brunswick in 2003, to Quesnel, British Columbia in 2005, and finally to Cranbrook, British Columbia in 2012, where they established their home.

Through perseverance, sacrifice, and unwavering determination, Angie and her husband overcame the many challenges of starting over in a new country. From humble beginnings they worked tirelessly to create stability and opportunity for their family. Her quiet strength and resilience formed the foundation of the life they built in Canada.

Angie was hardworking and adaptable, contributing meaningfully wherever life brought her. In China, she worked in Human Resources. After immigrating to Canada, she worked in payroll in New Brunswick, later at a casino in Quesnel, and as a laboratory technician at Quesnel River Pulp. Most recently, she worked as a laboratory technician at Skookumchuck Pulp Mill. She approached every role with dedication, diligence, and pride.

She was known to be a wonderful cook and caring for others often began in her kitchen. Preparing good food was one of the many ways she expressed love. She was also known for generously sharing that love, often handing out homemade dishes and treats to family, friends, and co-workers. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and sharing good food, going for walks and hikes in nature, travelling, and spending meaningful time in conversation. She was always ready to listen, to encourage, and to help friends, family, and anyone in need.

Angie will be remembered for her unwavering positivity and her beautiful, warm smile that could light up any room. She had a natural gift for caring for others and always placed the needs of those she loved before her own. Whether through small daily acts of kindness or quiet sacrifices made out of love, she devoted her life to supporting and nurturing those around her.

Her strength, generosity, and selflessness defined her. She found deep joy in caring for her family and brought comfort and reassurance to everyone she met. Her presence was steady, loving, and deeply grounding.

Her legacy of love, perseverance, and compassion will live on in all who knew her.

Angie was predeceased by her father Zhishan Zhang in 2019.

Angie is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 31 years, Zhilong Shao and her beloved son Yongchang (David) Shao in Canada. She is survived by her mother Xiao Di Shi, her sister Zhuliu Shi, her brother Guowei Zhang, and her extended family, including nieces, cousins, and relatives in China.

A Memorial Service will be held at McPherson Funeral Service on Sunday March 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with a private family interment to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make a memorial contribution in Juanping’s name may do so to the BC Cancer Foundation, 150 686 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 1G1.

Randy Raymond Hindley
July 22, 1963 - February 6, 2026

Randy Raymond Hindley, 62, passed away on February 6, 2026.

Born in Creston to Maurice and Dona Hindley, Randy’s bond with the outdoors began almost as soon as he could walk. His mother still fondly recalls stories of a six-year-old Randy "going missing", only to reappear hours later with a basket of creek fish, having spent the day navigating the trails on his own. That adventurous spirit never faded; whether he was hunting elk, scouting for horns or morels, or finding the perfect Christmas tree, Randy lived a life defined by the seasons and the rugged beauty of the wild.

Randy was a generous man with a big heart and a great sense of humor. He was known for his outgoing personality, always meeting people with a big smile and a hug. A fiercely loyal friend, he would do anything for those he cared about.

Randy is survived by his mother, Dona M. Hindley; his daughters, Kaily A. Hindley and Erin L. Merrill; his sister, Karla Hindley; granddaughters Charleigh Merrill and Zoey Hindley; and many other family members and close friends who will deeply miss him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Creston Curling Rink Lounge on March 7, 2026, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the Creston Valley Rod & Gun Club, P.O. Box 1, Creston, BC, V0B 1G0.

James (Jim) Edward Robicheau
June 12, 1948 - January 31, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of James (Jim) Edward Robicheau on January 31, 2026, in Creston, BC, at the age of 77 years.

Jim was born in 1948 and lived with his ten siblings in Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. He helped to put food on the table by trapping and fishing. At the age of 15, he took a train west to Alberta with all of his worldly possessions tucked into a garbage bag. He worked hard and earned his ticket as a plumber/gas fitter.

Jim met and married Patricia, the love of his life, in 1969, and adopted and raised her two sons. He retired early from his job as trades superintendent for Alberta Parks. They moved from Canmore to Creston in 2003. Everybody needs a hobby after they retire, and Jim’s hobby was work. You could always find him with a drill in one hand and a wrench in the other. After Patricia’s death in 2013, he met Rosalie, with whom he spent his remaining happy years till he was taken from us too soon.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his partner Rosalie, sons Ervin (Janna) and Bill, grandchildren James, Kassandra and Maxx, his remaining siblings, as well as his extended family of Rosalie’s three sons and their families.

Grandpa will be sorely missed.

Marion Kay Rinas (nee Larson)
November 20, 1942 - February 8, 2026

Marion Kay Rinas (nee Larson) passed away peacefully with family by her side on February 8, 2026 at the age of 83 years.

She is deeply missed by Ed Rinas, her husband, life partner and soul-mate of 61 years; her children Tony Rinas, Dave Rinas (Carole), Mitch Rinas (Melodie), and Rose Ratliffe (Will); grandchildren Dylan, Matthew, Kyle (Ashley), Alyssa (Mack), Wynter (Spencer), Kirstin, Alexandra, Karen and Michael; great grandchildren Karnel, Kacy, Emily, Jackson, Hanna, Nathan and Lane; her sisters Esther Perry and Teressa Hedman (Lorne) as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marion was a strong woman with a big, beautiful smile and a laugh that you could hear across a crowded, busy bowling alley. She was team mom, chauffeur or coach for whatever sports her kids played. She taught us all the importance of hard work, big hugs, making-do, puddle jumping, giggling and enjoying the laughter of small children. She was happiest surrounded by her family (or those others lucky enough to be claimed as family), especially if it was around a campfire with a pot of “Windermere” stew bubbling over it. She loved dancing with Ed, visiting sunny beaches in winter, and watching wildlife out her front window. She received some amazing presents over the years with Tony arriving on Christmas Day, Dave just after New Years and, on the birthday she and Ed shared, her grandson Michael (the only present she wasn’t allowed to keep.)

Marion is preceded by her parents Olga and Arthur Larson, and siblings Ethel Thomson, Einar Larson, Clarence Larson, Vance Larsen, Melford Larson, Ruth Hague and Carl Larson. If you hear thunder, it is probably just the Larsons laughing up there.

Forever in our hearts.

A Private Family Service will be held at a later date.

Linda Marlene Wallace (nee Mach)
November 11, 1957 - January 15, 2026

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Linda Wallace at Creston Valley Hospital, peacefully with family and friends at her bedside.

The fourth of five children, Linda was born to Walter and Pearl (Isabelle) Mach in Grande Prairie, AB, where she was raised and attended school.

In 1975, Linda met Gordon (John) Wallace and they married in 1977.

For nearly forty years, Linda and Gord moved throughout Alberta and BC, wherever their careers took them: to Lethbridge, AB where Linda first worked for a dental office then operated her own fitness studio; to High Level, AB, starting at the local newspaper before taking on management of the NorthWest Regional Economic Development Council; Fort Nelson, BC as the town's Economic Development Officer; and Olds, AB working in a law office, becoming involved in economic development in Sundre and then working at a real estate office. Linda entered into each new community with her whole spirit, volunteering or organizing town events, often together with Gord, including spearheading High Level's annual Canada Day celebrations for a number of years.

Linda enjoyed life and people, making and keeping friends wherever she lived. Her favourite summer activity for over 40 years was a camping trip with a large group of her Grande Prairie friends, often in the Slave Lake area. To their friends' children, they were often Auntie Linda and Uncle Gord. She made sure they spent time visiting all their family and friends as often as they could. With no children, they lavished their attention on nieces and nephews.

She and Gord enjoyed spending weekends touring the countryside wherever they lived, especially in southern Alberta where she traced on a map all the backroads they had covered. Though they didn't travel far often, they did have a wonderful trip to Canada's east coast with friends, Scotland with Gord's family, Ireland with Linda's mother, and with girlfriends to Paris and Italy.

In 2015, they moved to Creston so Linda could support her mother who had been diagnosed with dementia. Retired from work, Linda still threw herself into volunteering in the community, joining the Community Forest board and the Creston & District Investment board before becoming president of the Blossom Valley Singers choir. Linda shared her joy of singing with both Blossom Valley Singers and Key of She. She and Gordon also had a lake lot nearby where they loved spending their summer weekends, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and playing canasta. Linda also had a weekly Scrabble group.

In mid 2024, Linda was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis which led to difficulty breathing but she gamely took on that challenge as well, with Gord stringing oxygen lines throughout their home so Linda could move around freely.

Linda was predeceased by her parents Walter and Pearl, as well as brothers Richard (Dick), Allen, and Dale.

Linda leaves to mourn her husband Gord, her brother Gordon (Sondra) Mach, brother-in-laws Jim (Gwen) Zelling, Melvin (Jane) Zelling, sister-in-law Laura Mach, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday June 6, 2026, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Jimmy's Pub Banquet room.

The family would like to thank the following for your care and compassion: Creston area paramedics, the nurses, doctors, lab techs, imaging techs, and the kitchen staff who looked after Linda's dietary needs, housekeeping at Creston Valley Hospital, Home Care, and Occupational therapists.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the Creston Valley Hospice Society, PO Box 612, Creston, BC, V0B 1G0.

Angela Lee Rogalsky
October 12, 1979 – January 7, 2026

Angela Lee Rogalsky, lovingly known as Angie or Ange, was born on October 12, 1979, in Burns Lake, British Columbia, and passed away on January 7, 2026, in Creston, British Columbia, at the age of 46.

Angie spent her life in British Columbia and had deep roots in several communities throughout the province. Over the years, she built meaningful connections and lasting relationships in Northern BC, the Okanagan, and the Kootenays, leaving an imprint wherever she went.

Angie had a lifelong love for animals. From a very young age, they brought her comfort and peace, and she had a natural instinct and gentleness with them. This love was reflected in the many animals she cared for throughout her life, including her horse, her Shiba Inus, and her beloved cat, Daisy.

She had a huge heart and was deeply sensitive. If she heard about a tragedy—even one that did not directly affect her—it stayed with her. Angie felt things deeply because she cared deeply.

Angie was someone you could always talk to. She loved chatting with her friends and family, and whether you had good news to share or simply needed to vent, she was always there to listen.

Angie was deeply proud of her children, Jada and Seth, who meant everything to her.

Angie shared a profound and enduring bond with Timothy Daye. They grew up together, and over the years their connection developed into a deep and meaningful love. Tim brought Angie companionship, laughter, and comfort, and he held a very special place in her heart throughout her life.

Angie also shared a very special bond with her Aunt Annie and Uncle Rod. Annie was like a mother to her and was a steady source of love, guidance, and support throughout Angie’s life. That relationship held a profound place in her heart.

Angie is survived by her children, Jada Bal and Seth Daye; her parent, Len Rogalsky; her sisters, Amber (Kurt) and Ashlee Rogalsky; her extended family including Keith and Judy Daye, Tina Daye, and Tressa (Kevin) Kutny; her nieces, Elizabeth, Evelyn, and Michelle Kutny; her nephews, James Daye, Cole Kutny, Tyler Kutny, and Kyle Kutny; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her mother, Elizabeth Rogalsky, and by her love, Timothy Daye.

Angie will be laid to rest with her mother, Elizabeth, at Fruitvale Cemetery on April 4th at 3:30 p.m.(PST), located at 1720 Columbia Gardens Road, Fruitvale, BC. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to PAWS Creston

Angie will be remembered for her kindness, her incredible strength, and her love. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Jennifer "Jen" Lee Tompkins
April 14, 1975 - January 13, 2026

Jennifer “Jen” Lee Tompkins passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 13, 2026, in Creston, BC at the age of 50 after a short battle with cancer.

Jen, or Jennie as she was known by friends and family, was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta on an acreage where she had many pets, including horses, cats, hamsters, budgies, fish, a hermit crab and a pair of geese. As an animal lover, she became a vegetarian at a young age. She was always doing something in the kitchen, even as a small child, and was a marvellous cook and baker.

In her twenties, she attended UNBC to study environmental science, worked in tree planting camps in northern BC and travelled the world. She spent a year in Australia, cycled through Central America, and did a solo bike trip through Southeast Asia. She came back to Calgary to do a certificate in herbalism at Mount Royal College, where she excelled.

She moved to the Kootenays in 2008, living first in Kaslo, where she worked in the kitchen at the Bluebell Café, then in Meadow Creek at an off-grid cabin often visited by grizzly bears. Coming to Calgary on a visit during that time, she showed her horrified mother a bruise on her hip from the recoil of the shotgun she had been using to chase grizzlies away from the carrots in the garden. Most recently she lived in Crawford Bay where she worked at Red’s Café. In recent years she developed a passion for photography. Her favourite subjects included her pets, the mountains and landscape around Kootenay Lake, the northern lights, wild plants and tiny
creatures. She lived the most natural lifestyle possible, enjoyed walking in the forest with her animals, hunting mushrooms, growing vegetables, and spending time with her family and friends. She was an incredibly kind person, and she was kind and loving to the end.

Jen was predeceased by her father, Brad Tompkins, and her grandparents Gordon and Jessie Miller.

She is survived by her mother, Jeanne Tompkins, her sister Amy (Will) Tompkins, her brother Joe Chisholm, her nieces Lola Crossman, Sadie Crossman and Kelsey Chisholm, her nephew Kyle Chisholm, and many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as many dear friends. She is also survived by her beloved pets, Ned the dog and cats Callie and Wesley.

There will be a celebration of life for Jen in the spring in Crawford Bay.

Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or an animal-related charity of one’s choice.
