Earl Donald Hills (Don)
May 19, 1950 – August 21, 2025

After a valiant battle with cancer, Don passed away in Creston Valley Hospital at age 75, his 3 girls were always by his side. His strong will, strength, and faith fought hard, but his body was ready to rest. He is now walking the streets of gold in Heaven while the rest of us are still down here with some potholes - as he would often say.

Don was first and foremost a man who loved God.

He was the husband of Dorothy and loved her with everything he had, every day for 55 years. They were high school sweethearts and enjoyed many adventures together along their way. Their first home was in Kitimat, BC where Don worked at Eurocan Pulp & Paper and they made their house a home wherever they lived after that.

He was also a fantastic father. His two daughters, Crystal and Michelle, have never once had to wonder if he loved them or would be there for them. He did and he was – consistently. He instilled a deep appreciation of nature in his girls and taught them how to be still and find the quiet, inner knowing that only comes from God. His legacy is the sense of belonging and acceptance he provided them with. He will be missed and yet they will carry that feeling with them always.

These were his greatest life accomplishments - a faithful husband and a loving father – but there are others…

He was gifted with athletic skills and excelled in basketball, volleyball, track and field and boxing. He held the high school record for high jump at 6 ft. Impressive as he was 5 ft 8 in. He could “hang in the air” while shooting basketball. In 1964 (age 14) he was a winner at the Calgary Amateur Boxing Club tournament.

He became a Christian and was baptized with his wife, Dorothy in 1976. He attended North American Baptist College, served as an elder at Creston Baptist Church and was a strong advocate for the development of the Creston Valley Christian School. His belief in Christian education never faded.

He was employed at Hills Moving & Storage, Crestbrook Forest Industries, Columbia Brewery and Ministry of Transportation and Highways. Then in 1986 he was the founder and owner/operator of Creston Parcel & Delivery. He and Dorothy ran and managed the business for approximately five years establishing a good foundation and then his brother, Richard & wife Arlene, took it forward. It continues to serve the valley to this day.

He went back to school at age 41 and obtained his Forest Technician Diploma at Selkirk College, Castlegar, BC. He continued with Ministry of Forests until 2013 when he retired as a Compliance & Enforcement Officer. He worked in Horsefly, Williams Lake and Cranbrook district offices. During his 21 year career he was well respected and was credited with setting a precedent in case law.

After retirement back to Creston, he drove local transit bus for approximately 3 years.

Don loved to fish and did so as recently as July. He dreamt of hunting every fall and providing for his family. He loved the outdoors passionately and his property on the Goat River bottom was his pride and joy. He developed road accesses, cleared spaces, controlled beaver damages, renovated a cabin with his daughters, and spent as much time as possible wandering all over the land. He truly loved it and to share this special place with friends and family.

He never stopped appreciating basketball and baseball, but a highlight for him was following his niece, Hayley’s, volleyball career at Eastern Washington University. It was pure joy to be a spectator there and spend time with other family in attendance.

Don and Dorothy loved to travel and the first long trip they took was in 1975 to California. Don was amazed at the flowers along the freeway boulevard…just like him to appreciate the little things. Over the years, they were able to enjoy several trips to California, Hawaii, Cuba and Arizona, a trip to Mazatlán and a cruise to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Don enjoyed warm, sunny weather. He loved to have his toes in the sand on beaches surrounded with palm trees.

Don was one of fourteen children. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, daughters Crystal and Michelle (Keith) He is predeceased by brothers Bill, Vern and Bob. He is survived by brothers Ken, Larry, Richard, Rock, Ed, Neil & Tomm as well as sisters Betty, June and Penny. He had numerous brothers & sisters in-law and many nieces and nephews who he enjoyed spending time with.

Don was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it was worth listening to. His discernment, wisdom, humor and quirkiness will always be missed. There is a “hole in our world, but not in our memories.”

The family thanks Donna Maatz for her support during this very difficult time. Any memorial donations may be given to Creston Caregivers.

Coffee break celebration of life to be held tentatively September 20, 2025. Details to follow.

In Loving Memory
Harold Howard Hansen
Harold Howard Hansen
December 7, 1940 – August 24, 2025

Harold left home at just 14 to be a farm hand, and from that young age he showed a strength and determination that carried him through life. He was never one to shy away
from hard work or a challenge.

It was in Peace River, at a small restaurant, that Harold’s life changed forever. He was in town on days off from working on the oil rigs . As Carol (then a Nurse) was leaving, she accidentally stepped on his toe—and in that unexpected moment, love found its way in. Their courtship was short, but their love was deep and lasting. On April 3, 1964, they were married in Round Hill, Alberta, and soon after began their family, raising three children together.

Harold was never one to stay still for long. He had a deep need to take on something new which led him, Carol, and the kids on many adventures. Over the years, their family called many different places home. Each move meant new friends, new experiences, and new memories.

As previously mentioned, Harold was a man who thrived on challenges, trying his hand at many careers before finding his true calling as a Construction Superintendent. He poured himself into that role, and for 20 years with Husky Energy he found not only
success, but joy in the work he did.

Outside of work, Harold found happiness in simple pleasures—time on the golf course, a good game of cards, fishing, sharing laughter with friends, and singing. Whether it was an old school hymn or a Hank Snow tune. Harold’s favourite stage was in the car, where he hosted countless sold-out concerts—with Carol as his loyal (and sometimes captive) audience.

When retirement came in 2000, Harold and Carol embraced it fully by escaping the cold winters of home for the warmth of Yuma, Arizona. Over 18 winters spent there, they
built countless memories and friendships, treasuring every moment together. In 2005, they also made the move to Creston, BC, choosing it as their permanent retirement
community. Harold was drawn by the beautiful landscape, mild weather, and strong sense of community, Creston quickly became the place they proudly called home. Both
Harold and Carol shared with family numerous times how fortunate they were to have made so many good friends in Creston which only solidified that they had made the right move.

No matter the distance, Mom and Dad always made the effort to be part of family and friend’s milestones whether it was graduations, weddings, funerals, or birthdays. If there was a way to make it happen, they were there, showing how much, they valued their family and friends.

Harold is survived by: Carol Faye Hansen (Wife), Brent Hansen (Son) Deborah Hansen (spouse), Charlene Earle (Daughter) Colin Earle (spouse), Blayne Hansen (Son) Laura Hansen (spouse) Meagan Honeyman (Grand Daughter) Terry Honeyman (spouse) Parks Honeyman (Great Grandson) Blake Honeyman (Great Grand Daughter), Katherine Driedger (Grand Daughter) Alex Driedger (spouse), Allison Earle (Grand Daughter), Elizabeth Earle
(Grand Daughter), Samantha Hansen (Grand Daughter), Kalli Hansen (Grand Daughter), Alissa Hansen (Grand Daughter)

He is predeceased By: Alfred Hansen (Father), Alice Hansen (Mother), Margret McNally (Sister), Norma Brown (Sister), Lois Rud (Sister), Doreen Rud (Sister), Robert Hansen (Brother)

Glendan Shea Lawrence
October 23, 1986 – May 9, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Glendan Lawrence, a beloved father, son, grandson, brother, uncle, and friend, who died unexpectedly in Edmonton, Alberta on May 9, 2025, at the age of 38 years.

Born and raised in Creston, British Columbia, Glendan spent his early years surrounded by the mountains, Kootenay Lake and community that he would one day return to and cherish. He attended Canyon-Lister Elementary School and graduated from Prince Charles Secondary School in 2004. Driven and ambitious from a young age, he pursued a career in the oil and gas industry and graduated from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology with his Diploma in Petroleum Engineering Technology in 2006.

Glendan was kept very active as a child. He excelled at academics as well as athletics. The summers were spent at Kootenay Lake participating in all watersports and pier/cliff jumping as well as baseball. Winters were for skiing/snowboarding and hockey. He attended Provincials multiple times with his hockey teams and baseball teams. He continued to play these sports in adult leagues when he made the time. As an adult he started to add in higher adrenaline activities like skydiving, snowmobiling in the back country, dirtbiking, surfing, wakeboarding, cliff jumping and climbing. He would slow down long enough for a round of golf. He enjoyed being busy and active to fuel both his body and his mind.

Glendan began his professional journey in Calgary, Alberta, working as an oil and gas consultant in a downtown office. In January 2008, he welcomed his son, Mason—by far his proudest achievement. As his career progressed, Glendan transitioned from office consulting to onsite work, always challenging himself and striving to reach new goals. The family moved to different towns and cities over the years always trying to achieve something “New and Fresh.”

In 2013, he returned to his hometown of Creston, where he began a new chapter focused on real estate investment. He had a sharp eye for potential and a tireless work ethic—buying, renovating, and managing properties that became the foundation of a growing and successful portfolio. Glendan’s passion for building something lasting never wavered. He was an innovator, a dreamer, and a doer—never one to sit still, always thinking ahead, always with another idea on the horizon. As he continued to grow his business, he would take time to travel and a list of some of the countries he adventured in: Thailand, Bali, Belize, Australia, Greece, Turkey, China, Peru, Mexico, Guatemala, Taiwan,. There were many adventures, stories and memories from each trip

Outside of work, Glendan was a loyal Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Blue Jays fan. He followed both teams with heart and dedication, and was thrilled to take his son to Toronto to watch the Blue Jays play. A highlight of 2025 was for him to attend an Oilers playoff game and just be a few rows up from the ice where his favourite players Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid skated.

Glendan will be remembered not only for his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to his work but also for his generous heart, infectious energy, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the community he helped shape, the projects he built, and most of all, in his son Mason, who carries forward his father's strength, drive, and love.

He is survived by his son Mason Lawrence, parents Dave and Joyce Lawrence, grandmother Thelma Johnson, sister Brady (Lance) Huscroft, nieces Rylan and Brynna Huscroft and his loving extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins and of course his many friends.

“Face the world, face your fears”.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Canyon Park on Saturday August 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

David Drennan
September 6, 1961- June 14, 2025

Dave didn’t leave life but faced off with an unfathomable darkness following an undiagnosed head injury three days before his death.

Dave was not a keeping-score kind of guy. He wasn’t complex. He was solid, dependable & fun to be with and the best friend and big brother to many. His finest moments were given quietly and generously.

We, Dave’s family & friends, are his biography. We carry his story.

Dave was my faithful friend for 44 years and my life companion for 31. We met when I was 17and he was19. I had a crush on him from the moment we met.

We had wonderful adventures together and, in between, there was life where we moved through time supporting each other through the inevitable thick and thin. I could free fall and he would catch me, his big reassuring presence doing everything in his power to help me thrive.

You have your own memories, but if you don’t, know Dave was more kind and more generous than he was handsome.

He collected people not things.
He would speak up if he felt that someone was being poorly treated.
He adored cats, especially white ones.
He loved all things todo with buildings & boats.
He was grateful for his many friendships. Each one he cupped in his big hands like it was a precious small bird.
He loved his nieces and nephews and the kids of our friends who he watched grow up. He was in awe of parenting & kids who had something to say.
Between us, there are at least a thousand stories of his quick wit that even in the retelling are funny.
He would love that he can still make us laugh.
His heart would break with the weight of our tears.

To Dave
Rest easy my friend. Thank you for our wonderful times together.
And to those near and dear to Dave, let his playful spirit & kindness walk among us.
Tell his stories for him.
Let his kindness ripple forward.
That is what he would want.

In Loving Memory of
Corey Nygren

Born September 2, 1978
Passed July 7, 2025
in Calgary, AB
at the age of 46 years

It is with great sadness and disbelief we announce the passing of Corey Nygren. Born in Lethbridge on September 2, 1978. Passed away at the age of 46 from a motor bike accident in Crawford Bay BC on May 17th, 2025, and succumbed to his injuries in Calgary on July 7th, 2025, with loved ones by his side.

Born to Dale and Violet Nygren he joined the family as the second son and eventually as a big brother to two more boys.

He was a man with many accomplishments and a man of his word, a few of his greatest were being a loving son, brother, husband and father and a great friend to so many. No words fully can describe who he was.

When Corey was young, he loved being outside and mostly loved his bikes, starting with his tricycle and progressing to a Harley. Corey attended Canyon Elementary and finished in PCSS making and keeping friends the whole way. After school Corey then moved to Kelowna and started working in the glass industry as a glazier like his dad Dale had taught him. Eventually he moved to Grand Prairie and took a chance at becoming a helicopter mechanic and spent 3 years enjoying that profession. Corey then moved back to Kelowna and worked with his brother Nathan where he eventually met Kelly and her wonderful children Hailey, Kayla, Orion.

After a year of dating and becoming a family, they decided to move to Creston. Once back Corey became a ticketed glazier and was apprenticing to be a locksmith like his father.

When not working you would see Corey out riding his Harley and if you didn't see him, he would have been with family on camping trips or friends at the shooting range, maybe out on the lake or just out helping a friend or a friend of a friend, but usually you'd smell him smoking a dube.

Corey was the man with a huge heart and was super loving and super loved even having extended family in Costa Rica he loved to travel to visit.

He will be forever missed by all who knew him and by his dogs Charlie and Buddy.

Survived by his loving family Kelly Venus, Hailey Stovell, Kayla Stovell and Orion Venus, his grand mother Joyce Mehrer, father Dale Nygren mother Violet Nygren brothers and sisters Byron and Jeanette Nygren, Nathan Nygren and Travis and Jessica Nygren. So many aunties, uncles, nephews, nieces, and one great niece, and oh so many cousins who were more like brothers and sisters.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Gordon and Irene Nygren, grandfather's Henry and Edwin Mehrer, Uncle Howard and aunties Cassandra and Candace and cousins Shane, Maria and Brodie.
Corey may your last ride be to a place of peace and freedom, just like the roads you loved.

Jeff Dashwood
April 23, 1943 - June 22, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeff Dashwood, who left us on June 22, 2025, at the age of 82.

Jeff was born in Poole, Dorset, England, on April 23, 1943. In 1948, he immigrated to Canada aboard the Aquitania, a sister ship of the Titanic. After journeying across the country with his mother and sister, they eventually made their forever home in Creston, British Columbia — a place Jeff would grow to love deeply and help shape for decades.

Throughout his life, Jeff held a variety of jobs, including time at the Crestbrook Sawmill, CP Rail, and in construction. Eventually, he found his calling and founded his own company, Dashwood Enterprises. Through his skilled hands and tireless work ethic, Jeff contributed to many notable buildings in the Creston Valley — the Courthouse, Gleaners, the former Sears building, the concrete floor of Save-On-Foods, Hillside Street retaining walls, and countless family homes. His legacy is quite literally built into the foundation of the community.

Jeff had a deep love for the outdoors. He was most at peace in nature — water skiing, swimming, cross-country skiing, hiking, hunting, berry picking, or heading out on truck rides into the mountains. A man of many passions, he even dabbled in square dancing. One of his greatest joys was his cherished 1965 Mustang convertible. As a longtime member — and former President — of the Creston Valley Cruisers, Jeff played a key role in reviving the beloved Blossom Festival Car Show, which brought joy to so many.

His quick wit, ever-present smile, and twinkle in his eyes were known far and wide. Music followed him everywhere, and he was always ready for a dance. Jeff was hardworking, kindhearted, detail-oriented, and endlessly curious. His strong Christian faith grounded him, and he found a meaningful spiritual home at Grace Christian Fellowship Church.

On July 24, 1982, Jeff married the love of his life, Sue. They shared 42 beautiful years together and were just one month shy of their 43rd anniversary at the time of his passing.

Jeff will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sue Dashwood; daughters Carey (Bill) Morris, Amanda (Dennis) Cyr, and Kimberly (Devin) Nowoselski; and his grandchildren: Kailey, Aidan, and Annalise Morris; Faith and Wyatt Cyr; and Sophia, Everly, and Peyton Nowoselski. He is also survived by his brothers Art (Loretta) Stace-Smith and Dave (Char) Stace-Smith, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alvington and Joan; brothers Dick, Johnnie, Joe, Phil, and Allen; and sisters Ada, June, and Anne.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ewing, Dr. Walker, and the dedicated nurses at Creston Valley Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Jeff in his final days.

Jeff's spirit will live on in the lives he touched, the buildings he built, and the memories shared by all who had the honor of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday July 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Creston Valley Seniors Association Hall (across from Creston Valley Gleaners).

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the Kidney Foundation - BC & Yukon, 200 - 4940 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC V5G 4K6, or to the BC Lung Foundation, 2675 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC, V6H 2K2.
