I Be Jammin

I Be Jammin All of my jams, jellies, marmalades, chutneys and pickles are small batch made. I use as much locally and home grown produce in my recipes as possible.

I have had my products pH tested and approved by Vancouver Island Health Authority. I've been making jams, jellies, chutneys and pickles for the better part of 55 years, starting as a little girl of 7, in the kitchen with my Grandma. One of the most exciting things about my products is that they are prepared by MY hand with love and locally grown fruits, berries and vegetables. I fully support our local farmers! Native to Vancouver Island are the Salal berries and Oregon Grape which I use. I do also grow some produce in my very own garden! Tay berries are extremely tasty and unusual. Fine hand zesting the Marmalade, now there's a feat of endurance! "... made with real ingredients, no artificial stuff or fillers." My small batch productions consist of some of my Granma's, Mom's and my traditional recipes as well as my signature flare for combining different fruits, berries and vegetables. These combinations come from my playful side to incorporate new flavours. I challenge my customers to tantalize their taste buds! All my products have been PH tested at MB Labs in Sidney Vancouver Island http://www.mblabs.com/
I have been selling my homemade products for 20 years, 10 of those in the Cowichan Valley and entering the Cowichan Exhibition over the last 5 years has won me numerous first prize ribbons. Selling at the Duncan and surrounding markets has given me exposure to people from many countries. I continue to fill online orders from as far away as Rome, Chad Africa, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Singapore, US and across Canada, too many to list! Special Orders are obtained by request and have included such as:
β€’ Wedding Gifts for guest to take after the reception. A home-made jar of "I Be Jammin" preserves includes the bride and grooms name and wedding date on the label.
β€’ The Integral Ecology Group http://www.integralecologygroup.com/ workshop completion gift of a small jar of "I Be Jammin" preserves.

Today Certo is $191.75 a case...a month ago it was $86 and 3 months before that it was $64! I'm being priced out of business! Cross your fingers the price will drop because I don't know how long I can go at this rate.

Good afternoon everyone... My goodness I just can't seem to catch up! I keep getting side tracked. Hopefully Monday I'll be picking up some of these beauties...Damson Plums...the most sought after plum. The flavor is amazing! How do I say no to these? Still making pickles (will they ever end). Some things I can't freeze so when they are here everything else gets put on hold. Thanks to Susan, my friend across the street, she chops and peels for me and Kathy...don't know what I'd do without her. πŸ™‚
Just to let you know the Merganser duck red hair is gone and it's now Loon black with a red tint...don't ask. πŸ˜‰ And keep your comments to yourself please...it has not affected the quality or flavor of my products in any way... πŸ˜‡
Kathy and I will see you tomorrow in Cedar...enjoy the day.

Good morning everyone..Just a reminder that I won't be at the Cedar Market tomorrow...with the exception of me coming up to pick up my pickling cukes and getting back home to make Bread and Butter Pickles. Kicking Ass is my super power but holy mackerel this woman is a wee bit slower than before. Never give up...find a way that works.
So, what are your plans for this long weekend? Fall is just around the corner with cooler temperatures which pleases me to no end. Whatever you are up to do enjoy and Kathy and I will see you next Sunday. Take care.

Hello everyone...how are you staying cool today? We don't normally come to market when it's scorching hot but yes, we'll be there tomorrow. At least we have the shade from the trees. Next week we won't be there (Aug 31st) though. Kathy's having a holiday and I'm going to visit my elder friend Eleanor, who's been like a Momma to me for the past 37 years, in Campbell River. She's now in care and I need to see her. Plus I am out of so much stock that I need to catch up...making more pickles is at the top of the list. I did manage to get Ginger Rhubarb made yesterday...It's so good as a glaze on pork or chicken. If you would like anything for tomorrow's market just give me a call. Drink lots of water!πŸ™‚

Yup....that would be me alright!!! I just can't seem to catch up. The table will look different tomorrow because I'm out of a few things but it can't be helped. Don't know what I'd do without KathyπŸ™‚ If you need anything for tomorrow's Cedar Market just give me a call. See you then. Enjoy the coolness.

Good morning everyone...This was my bounty of crabapples a few years ago...these are Dolgo Crabapples and much bigger than the ones I was working with this week which means more juice. The 10 pounds that I picked which took me an hour, 4 hours to wash and juice them then turn into jelly only yielded me 8 jars! They are all sold. Sometimes I really think I'm out of my mind! πŸ™‚
So with that said, Kathy and I will see you tomorrow at the Cedar Market...thankfully the tent is in the shade. Stop in and cool off. Take good care.

Good afternoon everyone...Happy BC Day! What are your plans for the weekend? I'm all packed up and ready for the Cedar Market tomorrow. I'm not even half way through the pickles and I see the wonderful BC peaches are here. That's a short season fruit and I don't freeze my peaches so I need to switch hats and make my Lavender Peach Jam now. (my favorite) The lavender is not over powering...it pulls the peach flavor through. I love it with cheese.
Hope to see you tomorrow. Stay safe and have fun!

Good morning everyone...I need to bring to your attention that this woman, Isabelle Morris is responsible for growing all those lovely pickling cukes (with the help of her amazing crew of helpers). This is where it all starts so I can make my Drunken Dills and Bread and Butter Pickles. She takes such good care of me and I am very grateful. So next time you see her maybe thank her for working so hard to get food on our tables. Just try to match that smile! πŸ™‚

Good morning eveyone...Today looks like a good day to make Basil Jelly and my basil really does need picking. It smells like summer and sunshine in a jar! I have a customer who puts it on his peas. It's also nice as a glaze on a savory cheesecake or a bagel with cream cheese, cucumbers and sprouts. Use your imagination.
I'll be bringing my Drunken Dills to market tomorrow...if you would like any let me know because I only pack so many of them for a market and I wouldn't want you disappointed if they were all gone. So, Kathy and I will see you tomorrow...in the cool tent where there's lots of laughter happening. Enjoy this beautiful day!
