I Be Jammin

I Be Jammin All of my jams, jellies, marmalades, chutneys and pickles are small batch made. I use as much locally and home grown produce in my recipes as possible.

I have had my products pH tested and approved by Vancouver Island Health Authority. I've been making jams, jellies, chutneys and pickles for the better part of 55 years, starting as a little girl of 7, in the kitchen with my Grandma. One of the most exciting things about my products is that they are prepared by MY hand with love and locally grown fruits, berries and vegetables. I fully support our local farmers! Native to Vancouver Island are the Salal berries and Oregon Grape which I use. I do also grow some produce in my very own garden! Tay berries are extremely tasty and unusual. Fine hand zesting the Marmalade, now there's a feat of endurance! "... made with real ingredients, no artificial stuff or fillers." My small batch productions consist of some of my Granma's, Mom's and my traditional recipes as well as my signature flare for combining different fruits, berries and vegetables. These combinations come from my playful side to incorporate new flavours. I challenge my customers to tantalize their taste buds! All my products have been PH tested at MB Labs in Sidney Vancouver Island http://www.mblabs.com/
I have been selling my homemade products for 20 years, 10 of those in the Cowichan Valley and entering the Cowichan Exhibition over the last 5 years has won me numerous first prize ribbons. Selling at the Duncan and surrounding markets has given me exposure to people from many countries. I continue to fill online orders from as far away as Rome, Chad Africa, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Singapore, US and across Canada, too many to list! Special Orders are obtained by request and have included such as:
• Wedding Gifts for guest to take after the reception. A home-made jar of "I Be Jammin" preserves includes the bride and grooms name and wedding date on the label.
• The Integral Ecology Group http://www.integralecologygroup.com/ workshop completion gift of a small jar of "I Be Jammin" preserves.

Good afternoon everyone...Now isn't this the biggest ray of sunshine on a rainy day! I got a call from a customer in Nanaimo a couple of weeks ago and they wanted to come down and pick up some jam and jelly. They brought their 6 year old grandson with them who was visiting from Kenya Africa. Grama sent me a photo of him with his Blackberry Jelly that he's taking home to Africa with him. Isn't that the most precious smile you've ever seen? He'll be back in July and hopefully he'll come to the Cedar Market.

You know, there are days when I think this will be the last jam making year for me or when I get a pallet of jars I mumble to myself, "Last one" and then things like this happen and I wouldn't miss these moments for the world. His little face just filled my heart.

Good morning everyone...I'm a day late with my weekly post...thought I'd better wash some floors yesterday. I don't use a mop but I do get down on my hands and knees and it's quite the production to tell you the truth!🙂
I want to tell you how much I love growing peppers. I have so much sun in my new yard that they are in heaven and very productive. With the cost of peppers these days I'll be planting way more this year! My favorite picture is all the red peppers yelling at me to hurry up! Such individual little faces.
I make pepper jellies ranging from no heat to blow your head off heat...something for everyone.
The "Jam Room" is filling up and getting ready for market which will be here before I know it.
If you would like anything please give me a call. Take good care.

Good afternoon everyone...Hasn't Spring just sprung? This week I've been making lots of Tayberry Jam. I would say it's my most favorite fruit. The aroma that it sends off reminds me of warm Summer days. I have a customer/friend in Nova Scotia that's addicted to it! 🙂 I also needed to make more Zucchini Relish. This is a photo of Liz's breakfast table...everything on it is locally made in the Cowichan Valley! I love supporting my farmers too.
The Cedar Market is getting closer! I sure have missed it.

Good afternoon everyone...glorious day! Michele came by the other day and picked up 3 jars of Black Currant Jam. When she got home she sent me some pictures. It was the first time EVER that she made sour dough bread. She topped it off with my jam on it! Doesn't that look delicious? Yeah you Michele! I love when people share their achievements with me.
I can't believe how fast the time is flying by. Soon Cedar Market will be opening for it's 30th season. I'm so looking forward to it.I wonder what sort of things Kate has up her sleeve to celebrate? More will be revealed. 🙂
Have a lovely weekend and if you need anything please give me a call. Take good care.

Good morning everyone...well, it will be the last time we need to change our clocks...makes me happy. Isabel, my cat, is still stuck on the last time change and wants her dinner an hour earlier. Now she'll get straightened out.🙂
So, I'm up to 96 jars of asparagus but there is more to make. I've never had such a hard time as this year for finding good quality asparagus at a reasonable price.
This week I've stocked up on Black Currant Jelly and Jam. That has such a rich flavor! More and more people these days are wanting jelly. I have a great selection...Raspberry, Strawberry, Blackberry, Red and Black Currant, Quince, Crabapple, Tayberry, Mint, Basil and Lavender.
I hope you are enjoying the sunny day. If you need anything just give me a call. Take care. www.ibejammin.ca

Good morning everyone...another beauty day...the sheets are out on the clothesline. I thought I'd share a couple of photos from my old place up on the hill. I was there for 19 years! I had turned it into a little piece of heaven but the 2 acres was a lot of work and the older I got...well, you know. That's my chicken's house...yes, they were pretty spoiled. 🙂 The other photo is my play room, 44 feet long and filled to the brim. That was my most favorite place to be. Yes, I'm taking a trip down memory lane this morning.
Kathy and I will be up to our elbows in asparagus tomorrow...we still need to make 100 more jars. Remember if you would like any, now is the time to put in an order because they keep flying out the door. The jam room is filling up slowly...I like to have a lot on hand to start the season off. So, enjoy this beautiful weather and I need to get back to work. Do take care.

Good morning everyone...Well...this year will be our 30th anniversary of the Cedar Farmer's Market! We moved over to our new location at Woodbank School in 2019 from being beside the Crow and Gate Pub for 23 years. Where on earth has the time gone? I can't remember how many years I've been with the market but it's been quite a few. In that time I've accumulated a huge family! And also a lot of memories. Here's where you come in...would you mind sharing some of your memories with me? I'd like to compile something for our 30th anniversary along with some photos from years past. It would be fun! My granddaughter Sofia came out from Ontario when she was 10 and helped her Grama at the market...mind you she was not very fond of the old wooden out houses we had at the Crow and Gate! 🙂 ( She just plain out refused )
So that's me for today. Hope you are doing well. If you would like anything please give me a call.

Good morning everyone...I have some good news for you! I found some nice asparagus "tips" yesterday that are perfect for the 500ml size jars. ($13) Kathy will come tomorrow morning and we'll get probably 24 jars made. It's a start!
This week I was busy making Chunky Cherry, Sour Cherry, Raspberry Red Currant and Blue Raspberry Jams. Trying to get lots made for the start of the season. It's a good day to cook!
I hope this finds you all well and if you would like anything just give me a call. Take good care. www.ibejammin.ca

Good morning everyone...I got some what side tracked yesterday but here I am. I want to talk about my helpers today...those who make it possible for me to get the jam on the table. Most of you know Kathy from seeing her at the Cedar Market. She helps out in my kitchen chopping asparagus, beans, jalapenos, garlic...lifting all the heavy stuff. Last year she pretty much made the asparagus when I tore my tendon in my arm! I bought it, washed it and got everything ready. I have never seen a person cut asparagus like her!
When we do the market together all we do is laugh! How perfect is that?
Then there is Susan (those are her hands). Susan is my neighbor and we've become very good friends and lives across the street. I met her when I moved down from the hill. My crooked fingers don't want to do what they used to so Susan zests the lemons, peels the apples, chops peppers, tops and tails gooseberries, pulls currants, tops tayberries and even pitted the damson plums which she said she'd NEVER do those little B**T***S again!🙂( I'm sure I'm forgetting something but I'm also sure she'll let me know!😉 There are days I run across the street, fruit in hand, in my pj's or maybe dressed, drop it off and the job gets done and she's so quick! Last year when I couldn't lift and I was in the middle of doing beets, Susan's partner Lonnie would come over and put them in the waterbath after I filled the jars and I'd call him 30 minutes later to come pull them out. Seriously don't know what I'd do with out them.
So you see...I Be Jammin really is a joint effort...I am blessed having these 3 in my life...and the end product gets on the table and that makes everybody happy.🙂
I hope this finds you all well.
