Happy Birthday to this dearest friend, co-creator, sister from another mother Arleta. Virgo extraordinaire, mentor, voice note pen pal, and troubadour of life’s delicacies. 🌿✨ All the beautiful images on the Honey Womb site are hers — she carried the vision with me back when I was transforming and opening into new chapters. Arleta has the gift of bringing the unseen into the seen, always candid, curious, and full of love. She is the embodiment of humble pie in the sweetest, most radiant form, through and through. 💛🐝

Thanks for being born and for all that you do and all that you are Arleta. 🐝🍯🌼💛

Entering the golden hour.

Could it be that the echos of the land, the yellowing, the reminder that everything changes and it’s safe to embrace the letting go… to be in the shifting edge, a current of birth and death, bringing in and letting go all at once… could it be that it’s all unknown while recognizable all at once?

Detached to the outcome, attached to the joy -a natural superpower that we can’t help nurture from the birth room and everywhere beyond that.☀️✨

When I said I don’t like the word “doula,” here’s why ⤵️

The term itself is not rooted in our ancestral birth rooms. It comes from Greek, meaning “female slave/servant.” The word entered English when anthropologist Dana Raphael used it in her 1969 research and later in her 1973 book ✨The Tender Gift: Breastfeeding, marking a significant moment in the history of maternal support.

Over time, “doula” has evolved to describe a supportive, non-medical role in childbirth and postpartum care — focusing on empowering families during life’s profound transitions.

Let’s note that birth support existed long before the word. Across cultures, birthing folks have always supported each other through ceremony, herbal medicine, prayer, massage, ritual, and ancestral knowledge.

What happened?
🌓 In the 19th and 20th centuries, male-dominated medicine began regulating and marginalizing midwives, calling them “ignorant” or “superstitious.” Laws and licensing systems erased or criminalized traditional practices — especially those led by Indigenous and immigrant women.
🌓 The professionalization of midwifery split the field: nurse-midwives were accepted into hospitals, while spiritual and community midwives were sidelined.
🌓 In the 1970s, the homebirth movement and texts like Spiritual Midwifery brought holistic and sacred approaches back into visibility — a radical reclamation of birth as natural, embodied, and powerful.

Today, many traditional and Indigenous birth attendants are still fighting for recognition, protecting sacred practices that institutions often try to erase.

So when people ask me what I “do,” it’s not just about a label. What we’re doing is part of a lineage — care that is political, spiritual, ancestral, and resilient. It requires radical presence.

🌿 Birth “doulas” are not new. The care is not new. The word is fleeting. Presence endures.

When folks ask us what do we “do” at HW:

I personally don’t like the word doula. Why? Because it’s not a traditionally used term. It means “slave” in Greek.

It truly is beyond words and I’ll make another post about it shortly. For now, here’s a glimpse into the weave of the last 4 months. Because a picture/photograph is worth a thousand words.

Summer is exhaling.

Here’s what being a womb doula has taught me this season. I wanted to share as my roots deepen this month and I prepare for the turn of the colder moons.

✨ Birth is bigger than us. ✨

A pregnant person isn’t just “an individual”—she becomes part of something vast, a living current of life force that animates the cosmos. 🌊🔥🌿

Labour is not a task to -control-. It’s an elemental power, like hurricanes or volcanoes—reminding us that life is not always ours to manage. In a world where we’re taught to plan, organize, and control every detail—birth calls us to do the opposite.

🌬️ Birth is about surrender.
🌊 It’s about softening, yielding, opening.
🌸 It’s presence, not planning.

Labour invites us to release our stories, our expectations, even our ideas of how things -should- be. It’s the art of *letting go*—physically, emotionally, spiritually—so that something greater can move through us.

To melt.
To expand.
To trust.

-this applies to all birth environments-

This is the medicine of birth. The magic of life.

❤️Serena

Being on call as a lifecycle doula is a whole vibe.

Being with the land birthing and transforming. Shifting and fertiling (this is officially a new word)

Happy May Day!🍯🌿

Where we live, we want to pay homage to this season where:

The dandelions are going from little sunshines to moonlit seed orbs.

The high tide line is dripping seaweed onto the fur cone filled tips.

Skunk cabbage leaves, majestic, both hold and reach—like a graceful giant’s feat.

The ferns are unfurled into shady nooks for shrews and passerby’s secrets.

The trees are dripping with flower power filling the air with Beltane bliss.

We are here for it all while holding others with all of the changes! 🌊🪬🌹

What transformations are you witnessing in your world right now? Share a moment, a sign, a shift—let’s celebrate the season of becoming brighter together.

One year. 365 days between of 2024- imbolc 2025. And in those days, we’ve witnessed something beautiful unfold. 🌙💛
HoneyWomb.ca was born from a place of deep listening – to the whispers of our bodies, to the rhythms of the earth, to the silent calls for rest and healing. As doulas, visual storytellers, teachers and poets, we have spent years listening to and holding space for our community in moments of transformation.

✨🍯For the HW journey, this space of listening to the “spirit” of our business, is different. It’s a celebration of not just what we do, but who we are at our core.

The womb is the place where creation begins – and that doesn’t just mean physical life. It’s where dreams, visions, and growth take root. Where we find the courage to be soft, to heal, to rise. The honey we offer is a reminder of the sweetness within – the nourishment we so often forgets to give, to claim and to understand for ourselves.

This past year has been one of community, of brilliance, of reclaiming space, and of allowing ourselves to bloom unapologetically.

Every step of the way, we’ve been honored to walk this path with you – to witness your growth, your healing, your sacred rest and change.

We’re just getting started. The alchemy of the womb, of creation, of transformation, continues.

THANK YOU to every single person who has supported us, trusted our vision, and joined this community of healing and growth. 💛
This space was built with you in mind – to empower, nurture, and remind us all that we are worthy of support, care, and the space to bloom. 🌸

One year in, and we’re just getting started. Let’s keep evolving, together. 🌿

Thank you for being part of this journey.

Here’s to more growth, more love and as always, more sweetness.

Who else looks at the full moon every month and exalts in it as if it’s their first time?

Full moon 🌕 lovin’.

Here’s what you should know about today’s moon:
-Feel it all.
-Nest up at home if you want to.
-We wonder if this moon will make our local maternity ward busier…We’re napping today just in case.
-Reflect and create boundaries as an act of self-love. -Co-create with your besties and beloveds, while knowing when to protect your energy too.
-Womb power and womb lovin’ are connected to the moon.💕
-Womb care is intergenerational community care.
