🚨There is no scientific evidence proving that acetaminophen use during pregnancy causes autism.
Fever and pain in pregnancy should not be ignored, as both can create risks for the baby and/or pregnant individual if left untreated.
When treatment is needed, Canadian health experts recommend acetaminophen as the first option. It should be used only when necessary, at the lowest effective dose, and for the shortest necessary time.
Nova Scotia Health continues to follow the guidance of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and Health Canada. Families and pregnant individuals are encouraged to speak with their healthcare provider for advice specific to their situation.
