ATTENTION RURAL QU**RS!

Living rurally, off-grid, or in land-based settings as a q***r person can be both deeply fulfilling and uniquely challenging. While many of us are drawn to the quiet, self-sufficient, and grounded nature of rural life, it can also come with feelings of isolation, invisibility, and disconnection from community.

Rural Qu**rs support group offers a space for q***r folks living in rural environments to come together, share their experiences, and find solidarity in a community that understands the complexity of this way of life. Whether you’re feeling the weight of isolation, longing for community, or simply wanting to share space with others walking a similar path, this group offers a place to feel seen, supported, and understood.

Together, we’ll explore the joys and hardships of rural q***r life, share strategies for resilience, and build meaningful connection. The group is facilitated by Al (they/them), a q***r therapist who lived solo off-grid in rural Nova Scotia for the last five years, bringing their lived experience to the space.

Asking for help is hard, but so important!

At DRT, we've run into a tight spot financially. We hate to ask you for this support when we're usually the ones providing support, but we're trying to lead by example - there's nothing wrong with reaching out when you need help!

The issue:
We’ve run into unexpected issues with funders and other business professionals, which has put us into a precarious financial situation. With the cost of living having gone up drastically across the board, our operational business costs are also rising. Now more than ever, we need support to be able to keep our sliding scale fee structure so that those in our community who are most disadvantaged can continue to access this essential mental health service.

Purpose:
Your support will directly impact the 2SLGBTQIA+ community positively and help us keep our doors open to continue to provide inclusive and affordable mental health care.

Where your money will go:
Your money will go directly towards providing relief for debts accrued through some of our recent community outreach and accessibility projects. It will also go towards supporting the continued use of our sliding scale. Keep an eye out for future fundraising events as well!

Anything you can send would help us greatly and we deeply appreciate the generosity and kindness of our clients and community. Thank you so much for your consistent and continued support of us,

Your DRT team 🏳️‍🌈

"We thought it might be a good time to update y'all with the 2025 Diverse Roots Therapy Team!

A team that is growing, learning, and quite often being silly. These humans hold so much love and care for the community.

Beyond the walls of therapy, you may find these lovelies fixing the kitchen sink, supplying eggs from their farm, adventuring to the wild outdoors, cheering on your local trans wrestler, slinging earnings at your local q***r markets, or singing in the q***r choir....and so much more!

Can you guess who does what?

One of our therapists, Alicia (they/them), is close to the West Dalhousie wildfires and has been moved by the generous community outpouring of support, community, and the ways everyone has shown up for each other to help one another through this – and they want to offer their services as another resource in the community pool. They are familiar with the ways in which the threat of a wildfire can leave our nervous systems stuck in a state of fight-or-flight that can be difficult to move through. More so, they are aware that many people have tragically lost homes and may need a safe space to grieve and process these losses. There is also an incredible team of folks working to fight this fire, from firefighters, DNR officers, volunteers and more that might benefit from some additional support. If this sounds like something that calls to you, please reach out to admin@diverserootstherapy.com for more information and to sign up! Clients are welcome to continue therapy services beyond the three sessions on a sliding-scale basis if they would like to, but there is no obligation to. Sessions will be virtual, but please reach out to discuss other options if virtual sessions are not accessible to you right now.

"We’re often told to tone it down, smooth it over, play nice. But for many in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, survival has meant shrinking to fit a world that wasn’t built for our truth. This is your reminder: you don’t owe anyone comfort at the expense of your authenticity. You deserve to take up space.

The text box reads: Gentle Reminder “You don’t need to be palatable to deserve safety, love, or respect. You were never meant to twist yourself to make others comfortable. You are not the problem. The world’s discomfort with your truth is.”]
