Spring is here!

Using 3-part cards, we begin with the control cards—the picture paired with the written word—to introduce vocabulary and build familiarity.

Once the child is ready, they move to matching the separate word label to the correct picture. At this stage, they may not be reading conventionally yet. Instead, they are developing visual discrimination, noticing letter patterns, and learning that written words carry meaning.

Mistakes are part of the process. By comparing the word label to the control card, the child learns to self-check and correct independently.

This work builds the foundation for reading by helping children understand that:
• pictures represent objects
• words represent pictures
• letters form words with meaning

Step by step, this becomes an early pathway to reading and future sight-word recognition.

From seed to flower, baby to adult, egg to chicken, caterpillar to butterfly, and tadpole to frog—children discover that all living things grow and change through stages of life.

These hands-on activities help children understand nature, sequencing, vocabulary, observation, and one beautiful truth:

✨ Growth takes time.

Every stage has purpose. Every stage matters.

šŸ›ļø I’ve also linked some favorite learning materials we use this week.

The spill wasn’t the problem.
It was part of the learning.

When children are given the space to clean up their own mess, they begin to understand responsibility—not through correction, but through experience.

In Montessori, we don’t rush to fix.
We prepare the environment so the child can.

For parents and teachers:
Instead of stepping in right away, pause.
Offer the tools, and let the child try.

This is how independence and ownership begin.

Transitions can be one of the hardest parts of a child’s day.

Moving from one activity to another requires them to stop, shift focus, and regulate their emotions.

Here are simple ways to support smoother transitions:

• Consistent Routine
• Gentle Reminder
• Meaningful Task

When children feel prepared, they are more likely to cooperate and feel secure. šŸ¤

This simple activity is doing more than it seems.

As the child sifts, they are learning to control their hand movements, slow their body, and focus their attention.

These are the same skills needed later for writing, self-control, and independent work.

For parents and teachers:
You don’t need anything complicated—just give time, space, and allow repetition.

It’s not about getting it right. It’s about developing control.

Sometimes all you need is a friend to hang out with šŸ’—
Just a simple, happy kind of day.

Is this right? šŸŒ§ļøā€

Placing one counter for each raindrop… sometimes too many, sometimes not enough—but still trying.

This is how one-to-one correspondence begins:
matching quantity to number, making sense of counting, and learning through trial and error.

Not perfect, but purposeful. And that’s where real learning happens.

It’s harder than it looks… and that’s okay 🄚

With every scoop, miss, and try again, little hands are building focus, coordination, and patience.

No pressure to be perfect—just space to try, learn, and keep going.

I’ll put the rocks first… so my flowers can stand šŸŒøā€

Small hands, big thinking.

Transferring rocks, arranging flowers, and figuring out how things work—just like in real life.

Spring is coming!
Just a normal day outside 🌿
walking, exploring, and letting little feet lead the way.

It’s Springtime!

We saw clouds outside… so we made our own ā˜ļø

I put the glue… it’s sticky!
Then I added soft cotton—so fluffy!

I used my fingers to pick and place,
I tried to put it where I want it.
Sometimes it didn’t stick… so I tried again.

I’m learning to use my hands,
to focus,
and to be patient.

It’s a little messy… but I made my own cloud 😊
