The nervous system often feels safest around people who are internally integrated, those whose inner world is connected rather than fragmented.
When we are integrated, we are less likely to project unresolved inner experiences onto others. Instead of emotional reactivity, avoidance, or unspoken expectations, there is greater self-awareness and self-regulation.
Integrated people are less likely to unconsciously ask others to carry, mirror, or manage parts of them. In their presence, the nervous system can relax because it is not being quietly tasked with emotional labor.
In a chaotic world, one of the most powerful ways to create safety, for ourselves and for those around us, is to turn toward our inner experience with curiosity and responsibility.
When we feel safe within ourselves, its felt by others.
