🌟 Please join us in welcoming Olivia to the YSPOR team! 🌟

Born and raised in Whitehorse, Olivia has joined us this summer as our Junior Communications Officer. She’s currently pursuing a Bachelor of Communication in Public Relations at Mount Royal University and hopes to continue her studies with a Master of Public Health.

Through her time with YSPOR, Olivia is excited to deepen her understanding of healthcare research and support meaningful community-driven work. When she’s not contributing to the team, you’ll likely find her running, playing softball, camping with friends, or hanging out with her dogs 🐾

Welcome, Olivia! We’re so glad to have you on board!

🌿 “It was never just about research, it was about relationships.” 🌿

Over the past year, Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in community members, Elders, healthcare providers, and researchers came together to ask an important question: How can healthcare at Dawson City Community Hospital become more culturally responsive, inclusive, and reflective of Indigenous ways of knowing and healing?
With guidance from Gu Nähtsey, support from Yukon Hospitals, and mentorship through YSPOR, this project was led by local researcher Piper Fordham, who shares her personal reflections in a final piece that speaks to growth, collaboration, and what comes next.

🌱 From tea parties and survey conversations to knowledge-sharing around Indigenous healing methods, the Supporting Access to Care study has already sparked new initiatives, including a community garden project and early steps toward expanded cultural supports at the hospital.
