Lacey, a 19yo mare, presented to our clinic for nasal discharge, and a foul odor was noted. 1 year ago, she had a large tooth extracted, which caused an oronasal fistula to develop. An oronasal fistula is an abnormal opening between the nasal and oral cavities, commonly caused from maxillary cheek tooth extraction, dental disease, or trauma. It was decided to put Lacey under general anesthesia and clean out the debris that had been accumulating and causing her discomfort. We used our endoscope to get a clear view of the area and flushed a bunch of old feed out of the fistula.
While Lacey was under anesthesia, we performed another procedure called ProStride on an old leg injury, but stay tuned for another post on that!

🎉Happy 1 year workiversary to one of our amazing kennel attendants Addison 🎉

Here a few tidbits about Addison:

What’s one case that has really stayed with you?
💛 I had a boarding dog one weekend whose mom used to work at the clinic, he was very used to being up in reception when at the clinic. When he came in for boarding with me for the weekend I couldn’t for the life of me get him to eat, that was until I took him to reception. He would eat all his food and more up in reception but not in the boarding area because that’s not what he was used to!!

What’s your go-to snack or drink that gets you through a busy shift?
💛 A vanilla ice coffee with extra vanilla or a chai tea two honey two cream! ☕☕

What’s a fun fact about you your coworkers might not know?
💛 I started figure skating at the age of 5 and skated competitively for about 10 years! ⛸ ⛸

💐Thank you for all your hard work Addison, we really appreciate all you do! 💐

😱 60-90% of cats over the age of 12 have some level of osteoarthritis.
This once a month injection helps alleviate the pain associated with osteoarthritis in most cats.
The active ingredient in Solensia targets a protein produced by the body that stimulates a pain response in cats with arthritis.

Is your cat having difficulty:

🐈 doing stairs

🐈 jumping of and onto things

🐈 chasing moving objects

🐈 running

It could be a sign your cat has some level of osteoarthritis. Follow the link below to find out more about Solensia.

🌟Caring for Your Senior Horse 🌟

As our equine partners age, their needs evolve but that doesn't mean they have to slow down! Senior horses (usually 18-20+ years) often benefit from a few adjustments to keep them comfortable:
✅ Regular Dental Exams: Essential for proper chewing and weight management.
✅ Body Condition Monitoring: Watching for muscle loss or changes in weight.
✅ Metabolic Screening: Checking for conditions like Cushing’s
✅ Joint Support: Managing arthritis to maintain mobility.
Our team is here to help create a tailored, proactive care plan for your horse. 🐴

***INTERESTING CASE****
We recently performed a C-section on a cow due to dystocia (difficulty giving birth) caused by severe hydrocephalus in the calf.
Hydrocephalus is a congenital condition where excess fluid builds up in the brain during development, leading to an enlarged head and poor brain formation. Unfortunately, in severe cases, the condition is not compatible with life.
While heartbreaking, these cases are typically not preventable and develop before birth.
We are grateful we could support the cow and producer through a difficult situation.

🦷 Pet Dental Health Matters!

Did you know that most dogs and cats show signs of dental disease by age 3? Plaque and tartar buildup can lead to gum infection, tooth loss, pain, and even affect the heart, liver, and kidneys.

Regular dental exams, professional cleanings, and at-home brushing are key to keeping your pet healthy and comfortable.

Healthy mouth = healthier pet 💙

This 6 month old kitten presented to the clinic for severe mammary enlargement after her heat cycle. She is an indoor-only cat so there was no chance she was bred.
Mammary enlargement is a pretty rare thing that can occur secondary to hormone fluctuations that happen during heat cycles. This is called mammary hyperplasia, which is basically a fancy word for excessive mammary growth.
Due to her excessive mammary development, it was recommended that we perform an ovariohysterectomy right away and get this kitty more comfortable. Spaying stops these hormones from being produced, which in turn will decrease the mammary size.
Dr. Meghan performed a different spay technique, so that we did not have to place an incision through the painful tissue on her belly. A small incision was made into the side of her abdomen, and the procedure was performed through that site.
💕This kitten is recovering very well and her mammary development is decreasing every day!💕
