🦠Did you know cavities can be contagious?🦷

Cavities aren’t just about sugar. They’re caused by bacteria. And yes — those bacteria can actually spread from one person to another.

Everyday habits like kissing, sharing spoons, straws, or even putting a baby’s pacifier in the mouth can pass cavity-causing bacteria. The main culprit is Streptococcus mutans, which stick to teeth and produces acids that damage enamel.

Saliva is full of bacteria — some good, some harmful. When two people share saliva, the cavity-causing bacteria hitch a ride in those tiny droplets. Once they reach a new mouth, they attach to the tooth surface, especially where plaque already exists. If sugars are present, these bacteria quickly start producing acid, which weakens enamel and leads to cavities over time.

👶 Babies and young children are most vulnerable. Their teeth are still developing, and once these bacteria settle in, the risk of early cavities skyrockets. That’s why parents with untreated tooth decay often see their kids struggle with cavities too.

😬 Adults can spread it as well, but strong habits like daily brushing, flossing, less sugar, and regular dental visits make a big difference. The bacteria may transfer — but they don’t stand a chance if your mouth is protected.

Happy from the CDHO! 🦷💕 A particularly important part of this celebration is National Dental Hygienists Week, which takes place on April 4-10!

Until more people in Canada are vaccinated and community transmission of decreases, we need to continue to protect ourselves and others by following public health measures including using multiple personal preventive practices at once.

Remember that risk is lower when:

• You keep your close contacts with only those in your immediate household.

• You remain outdoors and maintain a physical distance when with people from outside of your immediate household.

• You and those around you are following personal preventive practices (such as wearing a mask and cleaning your hands).

• The setting has many public health measures in place.

• The setting is well ventilated with fresh air (such as opened doors and windows).

Yes, my dental clinic is OPEN during this third lockdown. Dental Hygienist are essential healthcare providers who help the public stay healthy in oral health but overall health too. With all the personal protective equipment to keep everyone safe, I feel comfortable and I am proud to be in healthcare right now. I received my first dose of the vaccine and if we all try to do our part to reduce the spread of this virus there will be better days ahead. If you are in need of an appointment you can call, text, FB or email me and I will answer all your questions. Screening will be done before you book and again once you arrive at the clinic. A temperature is taken on your forehead before any treatment is started. All the protocols are in place which will help you feel safe in my dental clinic. Looking forward to seeing ongoing clients and new clients are always welcome. Be safe and Take care!

Understanding COVID-19 Testing

06/11/2020

I am looking forward to seeing all my clients again once I have in place all of the newly required safety measures. These new guidelines are being implemented from the College of Dental Hygienists which takes time and there is a shortage of personnel protective equipment. I need to ensure safety first for myself and my clients. I will be re-opening in July (date still to be determined), with screening clients over the phone and then in person before any treatment can begin. Thank you for being kind to me as a business owner at this difficult time that we are going through. Keep on smiling!

Thinking of my clients at this difficult time in our lives dealing with Covid-19. Wishing everyone the very best safety during self isolation and the new normal of social distancing. If you have any dental related questions to your overall health please reach out to me by phone, text, FB or email.
As a RDH I am looking closely for the new guidelines to follow preventive treatment to my clients for the future. Missing your smile and hope to see you all soon enough.
Take care. Stay safe.

We have great doctors in our commuity.

Local doctors and members of the North Renfrew Family Health Unit have stepped up to provide extra support and help keep patients out of the emergency department over the weekend.

As of Monday, March 16, 2020 a mass email was sent to all dental offices to close for non-essential services, including dental cleanings, by the CDHO and RCDSO which are the governing bodies in dentistry. A state of emergency was declared by Doug Ford until March 31 or until further notice. At this time One to One Dental Hygiene Clinic is closed due to recommendations to keep all clients and personnel safe with the COVID-19 virus. Wishing everyone in our community the best possilbe outcome during these uncertain times.
