FYI to residents of Corner Brook and surrounding area:

103 Search and Rescue Squadron from 9 Wing Gander will be conducting training in and around Deer Lake on the West Coast of Newfoundland from February 28th to March 06th.

The community can expect to see a significant amount of CH-149 Cormorant helicopters and higher than normal Military activity in these areas during this period, concentrated around the airport at the Town of Deer Lake and on the North side of Deer Lake, opposite the Town of Pasadena.

Search and Rescue exercises place Canadian Forces personnel and equipment in scenarios that test their skills and proficiency. This training plays a key role in 103 Search and Rescue Squadron maintaining its operational effectiveness.

Riders, please be advised of a serious situation on the trails.

Last night, while both groomers were out working, the White Bay Convenience groomer encountered a wet area while grooming the Cormack Trail and became stuck in a bog hole. The Cormack Esso groomer responded to assist and subsequently became stuck in a water hole as well.

At this time, 𝗕𝗢𝗧𝗛 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗡 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘𝗗, and JTB is actively working on a safe retrieval plan.

⚠️ JTB is asking all riders to 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗬 𝗔𝗪𝗔𝗬 from the north end of the Cormack Trail until further notice. The bogs and water holes in this area are extremely UNSAFE.⚠️

Our two groomer operators and groomer coordinator, who were stranded at the site, were safely retrieved at approximately 2:30 a.m. by the Deer Lake Regional Search and Rescue and returned home without incident.

JTB would like to extend a sincere thank you to Darren Williams and his SAR team for their assistance during this situation. This outcome would not have been possible without their support.

Thank you to all riders for your patience and cooperation as we work to get both groomers safely recovered and back on the trails.

RIDE SAFE out there today!
