When it comes to skin cancer, what you don’t know can hurt you. That’s why learning the ABCs of melanoma detection is so important — it’s a simple tool that could help spot skin cancer early, when it’s most treatable.
Here’s what to look for when checking your moles or spots:
🔤 A – Asymmetry: One half doesn’t match the other
🔤 B – Border: Edges are irregular, scalloped, or blurred
🔤 C – Color: Multiple colors or uneven shades of tan, brown, black, red, white, or blue
🔤 D – Diameter: Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser)
🔤 E – Evolution: Any change in size, shape, color, or symptoms like bleeding or itching
👀 Check your skin from head to toe regularly good lighting.
👩⚕️ See a dermatologist yearly, or right away if you notice anything suspicious.
