🧡 The ABCs of Melanoma🧡

When it comes to skin cancer, what you don’t know can hurt you. That’s why learning the ABCs of melanoma detection is so important — it’s a simple tool that could help spot skin cancer early, when it’s most treatable.

Here’s what to look for when checking your moles or spots:

🔤 A – Asymmetry: One half doesn’t match the other
🔤 B – Border: Edges are irregular, scalloped, or blurred
🔤 C – Color: Multiple colors or uneven shades of tan, brown, black, red, white, or blue
🔤 D – Diameter: Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser)
🔤 E – Evolution: Any change in size, shape, color, or symptoms like bleeding or itching

👀 Check your skin from head to toe regularly good lighting.
👩‍⚕️ See a dermatologist yearly, or right away if you notice anything suspicious.

Melanoma doesn’t discriminate — it can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or skin tone. Early detection can make all the difference!

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and today is — a reminder that your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it needs protection every single day.

Tips to reduce your risk:

🧴 Wear sunscreen daily. It is very important to reapply every 2 hours. You should also reapply after swimming or sweating (yes, you need to wear SPF even if its cloudy out)

🧢 Cover up with hats & UV-protective clothing, and seek shade when possible

🕶 Avoid peak sun hours

❌ Avoid tanning beds-there is evidence from many studies that indoor tanning beds can increase your risk of developing skin cancer

🔍 Check your skin monthly for new or changing moles

👩‍⚕️ Get a professional skin exam annually

Early detection is key, so please don’t put off scheduling an appointment with your doctor if you are questioning any spot on your body!
