We extend our heartfelt thanks to the South Delta Minor Hockey Alumni Society for their incredible donation of $42,988.50 raised at the 5th Annual SDMH Alumni Charity Hockey Tournament held on January 31! This remarkable contribution will directly support the DHCH Foundation’s Endoscopy Campaign, helping expand and modernize Delta Hospital’s Endoscopy Suite so patients can receive timely, accurate diagnoses when it matters most.

In just five years, this inspiring event has raised over $170,000 in support of priority needs at the Delta Hospital Campus of Care. The passion and commitment the SDMH Alumni players bring to the ice each year truly make a lasting impact. We also want to recognize the incredible community support behind this success. From those who filled the stands to cheer on the players, to everyone who contributed, volunteered, and showed up to be part of the event—this achievement is truly a collective effort. The impact of a larger, modern Endoscopy Suite goes far beyond new equipment or space. It means more colonoscopies, earlier detection of cancer, and better treatment options for patients. As Dr. Mata explains, “When we’re able to offer more colonoscopies, that will turn into more early detection of cancer and potential treatments.” A new, state‑of‑the‑art Endoscopy Suite will increase capacity, improve efficiency, and ensure patients receive timely diagnoses in a space designed to meet the highest medical standards.

We are incredibly grateful to Ladner Minor Baseball Association’s Red Sox AA U13 team, who recently completed their Base-A-Thon, which raised an impressive $786.50 for DHCH Foundation! This week, Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation CEO Lisa Hoglund joined CBC’s The Early Edition with Stephen Quinn to highlight the urgent need to move forward with construction of the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre. We have been consistently told this project is not cancelled; therefore, this project needs to remain a provincial priority. With a rapidly aging population and a growing shortage of long term care beds, this centre is essential for Delta and the surrounding region. Our community has already done its part and all funds raised remain dedicated to ensuring this project moves forward as promised.

The Foundation Board and staff team are deeply disappointed by the provincial government’s decision to terminate construction contracts related to the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre.

We have been consistently told that this project is not cancelled; therefore, this project needs to remain a provincial priority. Our community needs clear commitments — including a firm timeline for construction to resume and assurance that the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre will move forward as promised in a timely manner.

The case for this project is clear and compelling. Delta and surrounding communities face a growing shortage of long‑term care beds, driven by a rapidly aging population. The Beedie Long-Term Care Centre is essential not only for Delta seniors, but for our entire region — helping to free up acute‑care hospital beds and reduce pressure across the health‑care system.

Our community has already done its part. Donors stepped forward in good faith, and all funds raised for this project remain securely held and dedicated solely to the future Beedie Long-Term Care Centre.

On Thursday, June 11th, the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation will be hosting our 27th Annual Delta Health Classic Golf Tournament at Tsawwassen Springs in support of equipment and capital improvements at the Delta Hospital Campus of Care including an ambitious $8 million campaign to fully upgrade Delta Hospital’s Endoscopy Program. We would like to introduce this year’s committee who are working hard to make this year’s tournament a success.
