If you've been on my treatment table, you know we walk through how to take deep breaths in the first couple of visits. It takes practice but every gets it eventually and then it's a nice hack to keep in your toolbox.

Did you know that I also use these hacks daily to keep myself from getting too wired? No.3 is one of my favourites, sometimes I do forget and have to catch up a few days, but and The Happiness Project are really onto something. Just one sentence really does allow me to reflect, on a good day or bad day. Plus, I'm excited to look back when I've completed the 5 year journal!

It's FRI-YAY! What better reminder to incorporate PLAY into your life.

The last pillar of health is exercise (or movement). I like to think of movement and exercise as play. After all, if you're not enjoying your workouts, it's probably not the right type of exercise your body needs or will even integrate. Forcing yourself to go running while you dread it is not only harmful on your mental health, but also won't be enjoyable for your body.

This weekend, challenge yourself to find a type of exercise that is FUN for YOU. It could be going on a hike, playing a game of frisbee, or a home dance workout. Just PLAY and the rest will fall into place.

Lower levels of the sunshine vitamin have been found to affect mood. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) often occurs during the gloomier autumn and winter months characterized by low mood, low energy, difficulty sleeping, and trouble with focus. If this is you, have you checked your Vitamin D levels?

Naturopathic doctors can prescribe therapeutic doses of vitamin D if your lab levels are low. Research has shown that supplementation of vitamin D is more effective than phototherapy.

Book in today to get checked and prepare for the winter months: link in bio!

FACT: There is no one diet that fits all. Whole foods will ALWAYS nourish you more than processed foods.

Hippocrates said "Let food be thy medicine". So what foods are you putting into your body?

Rosmarinus officinalis is commonly used for its ability to tonify the cardiovascular system and enhance circulation.

However, Rosmarinus also has carminative properties meaning that it stimulates digestion! The volatile oils relax smooth muscle spasms by delivering more capillary blood flow. Have you tried Rosemary?

It's no surprise that the body needs sleep to survive.

Long term effects of sleep deprivation add up and have been shown to affect memory, attention span, emotional regulation, adrenal and hypothalamus hormonal function. Sleep disturbances has been linked as a major influencer of cognitive diagnosis like dementia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and schizophrenia.

As an ND, getting you sleeping 7-8 hours per night is one of the top priorities. This needs to be unmedicated and uninterrupted sleep too. Book in today to learn how to get the best, most practical, sleep hygiene habits so we can support your brain function.

RECIPE| Golden Mylk

Did you know that Curcuma longa (turmeric) inhibits Aβ and tau accumulation (animal studies), and enhances mitochondrial activity. It's a super rhizome because it has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and glucose stabilizing properties.

Add this cozy drink to your evening routine! Hint: use a dark coloured mug or mason jar to prevent staining.

Ingredients (2 servings)
1.5 cups canned coconut milk, organic
1.5 cups nut milk of your choice (I prefer macadamia nut milk)
1.5 tsp ground turmeric, organic
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1 whole cinnamon stick
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 tbsp sweetener of choice (honey, stevia, coconut sugar, maple syrup)

Directions
1. In a small saucepan, bring all ingredients to a simmer while whisking frequently for 3-4 minutes.
2. Divide equally in two glasses, leaving cinnamon stick behind.
3. Enjoy fresh!

Tip: if putting it together is overwhelming, there's a great blend that's all good to go. Message for details!

Breathe In. Breath Out.

Research shows that having variations to how you breathe, and how deeply you breathe, affect your heart rate variably and thus longevity and resilience.

Deep full cycle breathing puts your body into a parasympathic (rest & digest) state so your body can repair and calm. Can't tell if you are breathing optimally? Place one hand on your chest and one hand on your belly. Fill the chest first, then the belly. Exhale from the belly, then empty out the chest. Repeat.
