Jayne’s Funeral Home’s New Owner
Hello, my name is Andrew Huskilson, and I am a proud father, husband, community member, and business owner. I was born and raised in Shelburne, Nova Scotia and currently live in Yarmouth. I have made the decision to purchase Jayne’s Funeral Home for many reasons; first and foremost is to bring a community business back under Canadian ownership. I own other funeral service companies in the Tri-Counties and believe that every community deserves a locally owned and operated funeral home to provide dignity and professionalism not only to the deceased, but just as importantly, to guide and support families experiencing loss. When a funeral service professional is called to a home, long term care facility, or hospital it is important that they have a tie to the community; it provides trust and assurance to the family. Providing these services 24 hours a day, seven days a week with a full-service facility in the town of Digby is a particularly important community service.
I am a fifth-generation funeral service provider and people often ask me how I became a funeral director - the truth is I didn’t just become one, I was born to be one. Caring for others in their time of need has been my purpose in life and it brings me a feeling of honour that families choose to place their trust in my companies and staff to carry out the final wishes of their loved ones. I also believe in community spirit – when I become part of a community, it is my goal to help when needed through local initiatives, sponsorship, or whatever course can be taken to support the area and its members.
I have worked in my family’s businesses since 1996, before becoming licensed as a funeral director in 2006 and embalmer in 2007. My certifications also include a Master Crematory Operator License from CANA in 2012. I am involved in both Provincial and National funeral association initiatives. Provincially, I am currently VP of the Funeral Service Association of Nova Scotia where I sit on the Program Advisory Committee for the Funeral and Allied Health course at Kingstec, NSCC. I am also a member of the Funeral Service Association of Canada. Locally, I am a member of the Masonic Albert Lodge #30, Past Master of Taylor Lodge #62, Royal Arch Lodge (Rossignol Chapter), River Hills Golf & Country Club, Icelandic Society of Nova Scotia, director of the Carmen Faith Memorial Fund and past member of the Roseway Hospital Auxiliary Foundation. I also am part of the 100 Men who Care foundation, Yarmouth Chapter.
My family, the Huskilson’s, began providing funeral services to local communities on the South Shore in the 19th Century. I am proud to carry on this tradition in what is now the 148th year of our existence. It continues to be an honour to serve communities we have been with for generations and to begin new relationships while our services continue to grow throughout the area. As a family business, we felt it was important that our communities know more about us and our history. Two years ago, Greenlight Studios produced a video highlighting our story; so, if you wish to learn more about myself and my family’s history in funeral services just type “The Huskilson’s Story” on YouTube or use the following link for a direct search: https://youtu.be/zKVlDZR_slo?si=fTCtV7twhmnDoOiQ
For those that have prepaid funeral plans at Jayne’s Funeral Home they are all still guaranteed should you wish to continue the agreements under our ownership. If you have pre-arranged funeral contracts with other providers and wish to bring them back to Jayne’s Funeral Home to support local, that can be arranged very easily. Leaving the American ownership of Jayne’s will allow our goods and services to be supplied from within Canada, supporting local and national suppliers.
I welcome you to an open house at Jayne’s Funeral Home on April 30, 2026 at 11am. Please like our Jayne’s Funeral Home page we will be making our presence known and will be keeping up to date on this page. Thanks for taking the time to read a little bit about myself, my family, and our communities – I look forward to providing the care and service to Digby that Huskilson’s has maintained within the Tri-Counties for almost 150 years.
