Requiem Life Stories, Legacies, & Death Doula Services

Requiem Life Stories, Legacies, & Death Doula Services I offer a range of end of life services meant to help individuals find peace in their final days.

I have a deep love of helping people with life stories and memoirs. I offer support both to those at end of life and to their families. Whether you need end of life companionship, help with legacy projects, or assistance with vigils, I'm here to help and assure you that you are not alone on this difficult path. As a published writer, I'm particuarly passionate about legacy projects and love to help those at end of life tell their stories so that a treasure is left for family and for future generations. As part of a larger network, I'm happy to direct you to others in the field, such as death educators, grief counsellors, or registered nurses who specialize in in-home palliative care. For those who are caring for a dying loved one, I can offer reassurance, guidance, and lend an ear during a painful time, because even the strong support system can use support themselves. I adhere to the code of ethics of the End of Life Doula Association of Canada, have certification from a recognized EOL doula program at Douglas College in BC, and am committed to ongoing training in the field. I also have a BA in Anthropology from Western University and a post graduate certificate in Creative Writing from Humber School for Writers. I am also a member of the Death Doula Ontario Network and the Southwestern Ontario Death Doula Network. Outside the scope of practice of a death doula, I offer relaxing Reiki energy treatments and guided meditations to those at end of life.

Famous Last Words is a new Netflix show that’s gone viral — but you won’t be able to binge watch it, and that’s by design.

The unique series features interviews with famous people who know they are dying, and the episodes aren’t released until the day after they’ve died. The second episode, released last week, featured a moving conversation with actor Eric Dane, who had been diagnosed with ALS.

Today on Commotion, Dr. James Maskalyk and palliative care nurse Sandra Marche join guest host Amil Niazi to talk earnestly about what it’s like to witness someone’s last words, and what they think of this groundbreaking series.

If you have experienced the death of a loved one in the last 12 months, consider this study for the university of Ottawa. :

“As part of the Nonreligion in a Complex Future project, we are conducting a survey that explores perspectives and experiences on death and dying. If you have experienced the death of someone close to you in the past 12 months, please consider completing this brief online survey. The survey should take roughly 10-20 minutes to complete, and will ask questions about services that the deceased utilized and their overall experiences throughout the dying process. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the research team by email (cmiller5@uottawa.ca).”

If you know someone who is grieving, wishing them a Happy New Year might not seem like the best choice of words. Of course you want them to be happy but there are other ways to acknowledge their grief and wish them well.

I believe one of the most important things we can do for ourselves is a life review, whether musings over a cup of tea, a legacy project of written words for family members, or a full-fledged memoir. In going over our life, we see the common threads and themes, and begin to realize we have always been the hero of our own story.
The memoir I assisted master art forger Mark Landis with is on sale Tuesday. A fascinating story of one man’s need for human connection, and the lengths he will go to to find that. Link in comments for purchase on Amazon. Published by Sartoris Literary Group.

Thank you so much to the team at Metropolitan United Church and Daiya Counselling for putting on a wonderful series to support people facing grief and loss. I was honoured to be a part of it. I’m grateful to the people who took the time to come together in community to discuss the impacts of death and loss and find ways to alleviate suffering. Thank you to Lisa Highfield of Healing Hearts for championing the cause of grief education and support.
