At St. Joseph’s Home Care, compassionate care starts where people are — in the comfort of their own homes. But it doesn’t stop there.

As part of St. Joseph’s Health System, we are proud to be part of a continuum that serves people across the lifespan — from hospital to home care, long-term care to hospice — ensuring that no matter what level of care someone needs, they receive it with compassion and dignity.

During Seniors Month, the people we serve reminded us of what matters most:

💬 Show empathy and understanding
💬 Lend a helping hand when you see someone who needs it
💬 Be proactive and love life

We’re proud to be part of St. Joseph’s Health System and to honour the voices of older adults. Join us in celebrating their wisdom and strength in this video:

As we continue celebrating Seniors Month, we’re inspired by the heartfelt reflections shared through our campaign.

At St. Joseph's Home Care, a proud member of St. Joseph’s Health System, we’ve been listening closely to the wisdom of those we care for — seniors whose lives are rich with experience, stories, and strength.

So far, they’ve shared simple yet powerful advice for building a more compassionate world:

🌿 Don't worry, be happy!
🕊️ Give a helping hand if you see someone who needs your help.
📖 Show patience and be real.

These reminders are at the heart of compassionate care — the kind that sees the whole person, honours their history, and provides compassionate, dignified care at every stage of life.

As we move through June, we’ll continue spotlighting the voices of older adults across our long-term care homes, hospitals, and community programs — because compassion isn’t just a value. It’s a daily practice.

❤️ Compassionate care lives here — in every small act, every kind word, every thoughtful moment.

👉 Stay tuned for more stories, photos and wisdom that inspire us all to slow down, connect, and care deeply.

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟

Yesterday, we celebrated the successful kick-off event for the new St. Mary's Health @ Home Program! The day was a great success, and we are truly inspired by the dedication and commitment of our new team.

Launched on April 1, 2025, St. Mary's Health @ Home is the first service offered by St. Mary's Health, a new initiative by St. Joseph’s Health System. Building on a legacy of care, St. Mary's Health aims to renew Catholic care in the Region of Waterloo, meet changing community needs, and bring care to where people need it most.

St. Mary's Health @ Home supports patients as they transition from hospital to home, providing innovative solutions to meet the needs of the region’s fast-growing senior population. This program helps seniors age safely at home and ensures a smoother and more effective transition through the healthcare system.

A heartfelt thank you to Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) for their invaluable partnership in making this program a reality. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in our community! 💙

At St. Joe's, our mission is Living the Legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph through compassionate care, faith and discovery. But who are the Sisters of St. Joseph, and how can we connect to their legacy today?

That’s exactly what Keith Metcalfe explored when he attended the Mission Alive leadership conference, immersing himself in the spiritual tradition of the Sisters of St. Joseph, walking in their footsteps to discover their origin story and explore their heritage.

As we recognize Spiritual Care Awareness Week (Oct. 20-26), Keith shares three reflections from his pilgrimage that highlight the shared identity, purpose and culture of St. Joe’s.

It all began with a group of Sisters trying to meet the needs of the day.

The Sisters’ great vision makes up the fabric of St. Joe’s.
Our purpose is to provide care without distinction.

Today on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, St. Joe’s honours survivors of residential schools and their families while reflecting on our individual and collective commitment to truth and reconciliation through education and action.

As healthcare professionals, our teams play important roles in removing barriers to care and providing culturally safe care to Indigenous patients, residents, clients and community members.

We raised the Survivors’ Flag, an expression of remembrance for those impacted by Canada’s residential school system, and a symbolic step in our journey towards truth and reconciliation.

St. Joseph’s Health System is committed to expanding Indigenous cultural safety training, designating spaces for traditional Indigenous healing, wellness and gathering, and partnering with local Indigenous communities to build capacity, education, and culturally-safe care.

On Tuesday, August 6, St. Joseph's Home Care hosted a Japanese delegation from Tokyo University of Information Sciences and the Faculty of Nursing for a meeting and tour at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton.

We discussed the success of our Integrated Comprehensive Care (ICC) Program, an innovative patient-centered model of care that directly integrates hospital and community care services for patients. The program is designed to make points of transition in care seamless and less confusing for patients and their families.

Thank you to Professors Yoshikazu Kojima, Yuujirou Matuishi, and Ayako Okada for joining in the discussion and McMaster University for the introduction. Together, we are advancing health beyond boundaries and embracing our mission by connecting with international experts to share insights and advance global health.
