About last night…
When I found out that I had been nominated for Young Entrepreneur of the Year through the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, I was blown away. The last couple of months have been a tad busy- kids’ activities, Legally Blonde, adding a new student to my team, other exciting things coming at Woodstar, and of course, all the regular happenings of life and work.
But I set aside the date, booked a babysitter, and showed up. Thinking I likely wouldn’t win (so many amazing nominees!), but proud to have been nominated and wanting to share in celebrating every other local business. The night of the event, while making dinner, I jotted down a few thoughts and notes (because if by chance I do win, I don’t want to look like a complete hot mess), I threw a coat of nail polish on quick, texted my sister for outfit advice, and ran out the door to meet my husband there (coming straight from his work).
Suddenly it was time for my award category and they listed all of the amazing nominees and then the winner…me! I was blown away! I wish I had spent more time really thinking and writing down a more thorough speech. One that more intentionally and directly thanked everyone that has supported me on this Woodstar journey. But even then, I’m sure I would have missed someone.
As one of my business buddies put it recently, every successful business requires good scaffolding to support it. And that is a complex network of friends, family, colleagues, team members, and clients. The friends who encouraged me, when I was just throwing ideas around. Those that went before me in opening private practices or clinics. Those that met me along the way. Those that joined me, either as a team member or a service provider of some sort- adding their skills and gifts to my team or business and trusting me to lead this beautiful endeavour. Those that taught me essential skills like how to manage finances or set up systems and processes that actually work. Those that help me take a break from all that I do with Woodstar (especially my theatre family). And of course my friends and family, especially my sister, my husband, and my kids who cheer me on no matter what. THANK YOU ❤️
