Ever feel like your energy, mood, or focus is all over the place?
Your blood sugar might have something to do with it 👇

Here are some common signs of blood sugar instability (aka dysglycemia):
✨ Afternoon crashes that leave you reaching for coffee
✨ Intense sugar or carb cravings
✨ Feeling “hangry” if you go too long without eating
✨ Brain fog and trouble focusing
✨ Waking up at 2–3 AM (cortisol kicks in when blood sugar dips)
✨ Shakiness, jitters, or lightheadedness between meals
✨ Mood swings tied to glucose highs and lows
✨ Feeling exhausted even after a full night’s sleep

Here’s what’s happening: when blood sugar spikes and crashes, your body releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline to bring glucose levels back up. That rollercoaster can mess with energy, mood, cravings, sleep, and even gut health over time.

The good news is you don’t need to cut out your favorite foods to feel better. Small shifts like eating balanced meals with protein, fat, and fiber, not skipping meals, and supporting stress can go a long way to keep things steady.

Your body loves balance 💛 and when your blood sugar is more stable, everything from your energy to your digestion to your hormones can thank you.

Want to dive deeper? Tune into this week’s episode of The Balance with Britt Podcast — The 3PM Energy Crash: What’s Really Going On (and How to Fix It) with Kelly Carter. You’ll get even more insight and practical tips you can start using right away.

It’s 3PM, you’re dragging, your brain feels foggy, and suddenly you’re reaching for coffee or something sweet just to keep going.

I’ll tell you. That crash is not because of a caffeine deficiency. There’s more at play and we chat about it in this weeks episode of The Balance with Britt Podcast with guest

Most women chalk this up to “just being tired,” but the truth is, that mid-afternoon crash is usually a sign of blood sugar imbalance.

That’s exactly what I sat down to talk about with Kelly Carter, RNP and cofounder of RenewRx, on this week’s episode of The Balance with Britt Podcast.

We chat all about:
✨ What’s actually happening in your body when you crash
✨ Everyday habits (like skipping lunch or “just one more coffee”) that make things worse
✨ Signs of blood sugar imbalance you might not know about
✨ Kelly’s simple, non-negotiable strategies for steady energy all day long

It’s not about perfection or cutting everything out. It’s about small, realistic changes that make a huge difference.

You don’t have to live at the mercy of the 3PM slump. This conversation will show you how to support your body so you can feel steady, energized, and focused every day.

Tired. Bloated. Stressed. On edge. 🫠
It doesn’t have to stay that way.

5 simple shifts for more energy + calm:
✨ Protein at breakfast
✨ Morning sunlight
✨ Move your body (even 5 mins!)
✨ Stay hydrated
✨ Slow down + actually chew your food

Small changes → big results 💛

Hummus will forever be one of my go-to balanced snacks 💛 It’s protein + fiber packed, keeps me full, and tastes amazing. I love pairing it with naan, seedy crackers, or carrot sticks for an easy, nourishing snack.

Here’s my homemade Dill Garlic Hummus recipe so you can try it too:

✨ 1 can chickpeas, rinsed & drained
✨ 1 tbsp tahini
✨ 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
✨ 2 cloves garlic (I went crazy and did 3 but it was pretty powerful 😂)
✨ 3 tbsp fresh dill (or 1 tsp dried) - I measure with the heart- but it was around this!
✨ 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
✨ Pinch of sea salt

Blend everything in a food processor until smooth and creamy. Adjust water and salt to taste. That’s it! Simple, delicious, and gut-loving.

Would you dip naan, crackers, or veggies first? 👇

✨ a day in the life of a girlie with gut health on point ✨

Here’s what it actually looks like 👇

Morning:

☀️Wakes up rested because they’ve prioritized a consistent sleep schedule (deep sleep = stronger gut balance).
🍋Starts the day with warm lemon water or herbal tea before coffee, helping digestion wake up gently.
🥚Eats a protein-rich, fibre-packed breakfast: something like scrambled eggs with sautéed greens and avocado, or overnight oats with chia seeds, berries, and a dollop of yogurt for probiotics.
🧘🏼Takes a few minutes to eat mindfully instead of rushing, which supports stomach acid and enzyme release.

Mid-Morning:

🥳Energy feels stable because of balanced blood sugar.
💧Sips water or herbal tea.
🍏If hungry, snacks on a handful of almonds and an apple, feeding gut microbes with natural fibre.

Lunch:

🥬Packs or makes a colourful plate: maybe a quinoa bowl with chickpeas, roasted veggies, leafy greens, and tahini dressing.
🐛Includes a fermented food like sauerkraut or kimchi for probiotics.
💻Steps away from the desk to actually enjoy the meal without distractions.

Afternoon:
🥜Energy dips less dramatically, but when hunger strikes, chooses something gut-friendly: maybe Greek yogurt with flaxseed, or carrots with hummus.
🚶‍♂️Goes for a short walk outside to reduce stress and boost digestion.

Evening:

🐟 Makes a balanced dinner at home: baked salmon, roasted sweet potatoes, and a big salad with olive oil and pumpkin seeds.
🍺Drinks water or kombucha instead of alcohol (if drinking, enjoys a glass of red wine occasionally, but not nightly).
✨Enjoys time with family, maybe does a bit of light stretching or reading before bed.

Night:

💤Winds down with a calm bedtime routine (screens off, maybe a bath or journaling).
🛏️ Heads to bed at a consistent time, getting 7–9 hours of restful sleep.

👉 Over time, these habits:

Feed beneficial gut bacteria with prebiotics (fibre, veggies, fruit, legumes) and probiotics (fermented foods).

Support digestion with mindful eating and less stress.

Keep energy, mood, and digestion more stable.

This weekend was all about muddy boots, trail snacks, and breathing in that fresh air 🌲 Slowing down like this always reminds me how much I need time in nature to reset and recharge.

I love sharing about health here, but this is also me just enjoying the simple things. A quiet trail, a little movement, and way too many snacks packed for “just in case.”

What’s one thing that helps you feel grounded again after a busy week?

A poor gut day isn’t just about food 👀
(it’s your morning routine, evening routine, sleep, stress + all the in-betweens).

👉 This is why when I work with clients, we cover it ALL—not just what’s on your plate. Because your gut (and energy, mood + hormones) depend on more than food alone.

Feeling anxious? What you eat matters more than you think.
These foods can help support a calmer mind and balanced mood:

✔ Salmon – Omega-3s to support brain health and reduce inflammation linked to anxiety.
✔ Dark chocolate – Flavonoids and magnesium to calm stress (choose 70% or higher).
✔ Fermented foods – Feed your gut bacteria for better mood regulation.
✔ Bananas – Rich in B6 for serotonin production and potassium to support your stress response.
✔ Oats & sweet potatoes – Complex carbs that help stabilize blood sugar and keep serotonin steady.

✨ Blood sugar crashes, gut imbalances, and nutrient gaps can all impact anxiety. These foods are simple tools for your anxiety support toolbox.
