Astigmatism isn’t a disease ... but it is a very common vision condition that can cause blurred or distorted vision, eye strain, and/or headaches. Because it often develops early in life, it’s important for children to have regular comprehensive eye exams. Early detection and correction (with glasses) is the key to your child's success at school!
Astigmatism isn’t an eye disease — it’s simply an irregular shape of the cornea or lens that causes blurred or distorted vision at any distance.
Kids with astigmatism might:
🔹 Complain of headaches or tired eyes
🔹 Avoid reading or up-close work
🔹 Squint or tilt their head to see better
📊 Many children don’t notice anything is “wrong” — they just adapt.
🩺 An OHIP-covered eye exam can detect astigmatism early and correct it with glasses or contact lenses.
✅ First eye exam at 6 months
✅ Annual exams after age 3
Clear vision helps your child learn, play, and thrive.
