WATER - WOOD
Spring – “Budding with Excitement”
Winter weather is still holding on, yet the days are getting longer and brighter. Under the blanket of snow, nature is rousing from her winter slumber and looks ahead to the new growth of Spring. The Wood, which has been at rest, storing and concentrating its chi during the Winter, begins to burst forth with new buds pushing up through the crust of the Earth towards the Light.
Wood’s essence is rebirth, a surge of rising energy - witnessed in the new lambs who are frolicking in the field, the dandelions emerging through the cracks in the concrete, the nettles finding their place in amongst the blackberry vines and the increase in bird songs and activity.
The meridians associated with Wood are the Gall Bladder and the Liver and a few of the symptoms that may occur at this time are allergies, muscle tension and stiffness, digestive difficulties, eye issues, depression, hip, and shoulder problems.
Wood is about youth, new beginnings, and visions for a new cycle in our lives. A time of fullness and excitement. If we have followed the cycle of the Five Elements and rested during the Water-Winter season, as humans we too feel ourselves emerging with more energy. This is the time of the year to act on our vision, plan how to manifest our vision, make decisions and formulate our direction for the future by taking action.
Remember those vague, idealistic thoughts that we had during Winter? Suddenly those thoughts are manifesting into concrete plans – something that we can act on such as leaving a job, moving to a new residence or city, taking a new course or training.
In the Winter, decisions seemed too difficult or too tiring to make! – Spring is giving the oomph to see goals clearly, make the plan and begin to follow through in a smooth and timely action. We may now find ourselves quick to rise to anger, especially if our plans are being obstructed – this is our Spirit calling out for “the will to become who we truly are.” Let yourself surge forth with the power of Springtime – push ahead, give birth, and grow your Spirit.
