Lol, yup there ARE 2 primary types or worker on site.

As safety reps on sites we see this all the time. Our job is to win over both so we can see the best outcomes for safety and project timelines.

Its tricky, but we make it work.

Fleet maintenance is an integral part of patient care at Medix EMS.

Our units are constantly on the move, and that means our team is constantly working behind the scenes to ensure every vehicle is safe, reliable, and fully mission-ready. Each unit undergoes two annual terminal cleans and full mechanical inspections to keep them operating at the highest standard.

This week, M105 is in for a full terminal clean, which means we strip the unit completely—every cabinet, compartment, and equipment mount. From there, our team completes a series of in-house upgrades to both the treatment bay and front cab. This round includes:

Electrical system improvements

Refitting and reinstalling all scheduled medical equipment

Preparing the unit for our new Stryker Power Cots

Installing our new GPS-enabled DriveSafe dash cameras

And much more

When equipment comes out, it doesn’t go back in the same way. We use the opportunity to refresh, replace, and modernize. All gear gets updated, reorganized, and heat-sealed into clean bins so everything stays protected and ready for immediate deployment.

The giant pile of boxes beside M105? That’s all brand-new, freshly stocked gear that will be used to outfit this unit—and several others—over the coming days.

Keeping our fleet in top condition isn’t just maintenance.
It’s patient care, operational reliability, and safety—done right.

A Boil Water Advisory has been issued for the City of Duncan - Local Government and Cowichan Tribes following a sewage leak.

A boil water advisory has been posted for the area of City of Duncan - Local Government and Cowichan Tribes due to a sewage leak.

UPDATE:
Earlier today, the City of Duncan updated the boil water advisory to parts of the North Cowichan municipality. This is because many of the urban properties in North Cowichan are on the Duncan water utility service. As they draw their water from Duncan, thay system is now entirely affected until tested otherwise.

Please ensure that you check your utility bill to confirm if you are using Duncan water.

While this advisory is precautionary, all residents are urged to boil water for at least 1 minute before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, preparing infant formula, or washing fruits and vegetables.

It’s important to understand that while systems like LifeStraw or HydraPak filters are highly effective for particulates and many contaminants, sewage-affected water can contain viruses such as Hepatitis A and Norovirus, which require heat treatment to neutralize.

Recommended Two-Stage Water Safety Method

Step 1 – Mechanical Filtration
Use a medium-flow mechanical filter to remove sediment and pathogens. Systems such as a RapidPure 9L Gravity Filter or a HydraPak inline filter offer adaptable, high-efficiency filtration comparable to full in-house filter systems.

Step 2 – Heat Treatment (Boiling)
After filtering, bring the water to a rolling boil for at least 1 full minute. Allow it to cool and store it only in clean, dry, food-safe containers.

This two-stage approach provides the most reliable protection when dealing with water potentially contaminated by sewage.

Stay safe, stay informed. If you need assistance selecting filtration or purification equipment, we’re here to help.

Prompt Payment for a Stronger BC

On October 7, 2025, the BC Legislative Assembly tabled the BC Prompt Payment Act — a landmark piece of legislation designed to ensure fairness and accountability across the construction industry.

This Act mandates that all contractors and businesses operating within the construction sector must pay subcontractors and service providers within 15 days of services being rendered or invoices being issued.

At Medix EMS, we’re proud to see meaningful legislation that recognizes the essential role small and medium-sized businesses play in keeping British Columbia’s worksites safe, efficient, and compliant. Prompt and fair payment strengthens local economies, supports workers, and ensures that those on the front lines — including first aid and safety service providers — are treated with the respect their work deserves.

In alignment with this legislation, Medix EMS is officially updating our own payment terms to 15 days for all contracted services, effective immediately. We believe in leading by example — fostering trust, fairness, and accountability in every partnership we build.

Accountability starts with action — and this Act represents a long-overdue step toward a more equitable industry for everyone.

Businesses and workers from the construction sector will benefit from greater certainty with new legislation that will ensure contractors, subcontractors and workers are paid fairly and on time.

Update Post:

At approximately 11pm, Island Health advised that the CDH ER had passed initial inspections by their Facilities team and while the initial closure was only a short duration, the ER had fully reopened and were still seeing patients. Noting that 'structurally' the building and entry areas were not impacted and that temporary doors were being built, and staff would be placed outside to assist in continued patient care in Emergency.

Patient care times may be impacted due to the incident and the ER team having to modify the triage intake system.

A huge congratulations to both the ER Team for keeping their heads and doing their job so professionally in a hectic moment. As well a massive congratulations to the Emergency crews that attended, the facilities team that worked quickly to reduce the closure and impact to the regions patient care needs and get our regions only 24/7 Emergency Room up and running so fast.

Original Post:

Cowichan Dirstrict Hospital is currently on Emergency Redirect due to a vehicle smashing into the main doors of the emergency room.

Reports are that the driver may have fled the scene but is known to RCMP. There are no reports of injuries at this time.

Patients and the public are recommended to follow Island Health social media for the latest update to this ongoing scene. As well as directions for in person emergency needs, nearest alternative hospitals that are available, and ongoing information.

It is highly recommended that any person in need of urgent or emergency care to first contact 8-1-1 to have your medical concern triaged and reviewed by a variety of health care specialists.

If your medical need is life-threatening, call 9-1-1 to be put through to the BC Emergency Health Services; ambulance services are NOT impacted by this incident.

To the Emergency Room team, deep breath, take a moment, calm, you got this. You know you've got this because you're the best team in town, the BEST! This community loves you for everything you do. All the care and respect you give this community, day in and out. We hope that no one got injured, but if they did, they are in the best hands.
