The saying, "Too many cooks in the kitchen", is often something we hear when the concept of multi-disciplinary healthcare has failed.
Many people come to see us after being overwhelmed by their healthcare practitioners. They have been told they could have 5 different problems due to 5 different issues, leading them to saying to themselves "I'm a mess, I'm broken, I don't know what to do".
The patient comes out after multiple appointments with chiropractors, massage therapists, physiotherapists, acupuncturists, medical doctors, etc. with few trusted answers and more questions, usually with a lot of frustration, negative labels and even feelings of hopelessness.
How do we prevent this from happening?
As integrated healthcare teams, we must put the patients needs first. We must communicate to one another effectively to create a clear message of care to our patients. Lastly, we must empower our patients to take control of their health and help them find their strength, not their weakness.
Please share ths post if you feel there is someone you know who needs to hear this. You are not helpless!
