Please welcome Jenny Jackson, locum Midwife from March onwards. We are very excited and grateful to have Jenny joining the team in September, but this will be a great way to meet her along your journey ❤️💫 Thank you for welcoming me as a midwife into your care. The idea to become a midwife actually came to me in a fever dream in 2011, and when my fever broke I signed up for a local doula course that started the next week. It was attending births while I was studying in Montreal where I discovered there was nowhere else I would rather be than attending families alongside their journeys with fertility, pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Midwifery drew me in as it felt like the perfect combination of practical skills, deep relationships, science, and traditional knowledge. My love for midwifery has only grown through my recent experience of welcoming my daughter with my own incredible midwife.

After working as a dietitian in the areas of perinatal, geriatric, and palliative nutrition, I studied midwifery at UBC, where I had the privilege of attending births in Victoria, Comox, Quw’utsun’, and Haida Gwaii. I have been working as a midwife on Quw’utsun’ land since 2022 and am excited to be returning to work after maternity leave.

When I am not midwifing I can be found sewing, crafting, hiking, digging in the dirt or playing volleyball with my baby sidekick and partner.

‘Uy skweyul’
(Good day in Hul’q’umi’num),

Jenny Jackson

Please welcome Midwife Sherisse Roseboom, as they join us in covering as Locum for Midwife Willow while she is in New Zealand in February!

Sherisse (they/them) has been practicing midwifery since 2022. They are a settler of Dutch and Scandinavian ancestry, and they are grateful to offer midwifery care on the traditional, unceded territory of the Cowichan Tribes. They aim to provide compassionate and accessible midwifery so that every person in their care feels seen and supported. They have particular interests in trauma-informed care and harm reduction, the intersection of neurodivergence and parenting, and the role of rural midwives in climate collapse. Sherisse is a proud member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
In their downtime, they enjoy hiking, kayaking, reading, and adding to their tattoo
collection.
