Our Story

Island Domestic Services is a locally owned and operated company. Established in 2003, with just a small advertisement in the local newspaper, owner Sharon Moore has enjoyed working with thousands of clients throughout the Cowichan Valley. After more than 15 years, our business has grown from that of just one very hardworking mother and wife, to a staff of more than 20 employees. With support from our office manager, Sharon continues to work full time doing what she loves most: working in people’s homes to make their lives a bit easier.

Island Domestic Services operates from Ladysmith to the Malahat, as well as Lake Cowichan and Youbou. We are privately insured, bonded, and insured through Worksafe BC. We offer direct billing to ICBC and other insurers for your approved claims.

We’re proud to be a housekeeping contractor for the Cowichan Region Better at Home Program, which assists seniors to continue to live independently at home- with just a little help from companies like ours! We are also registered with Veteran’s Affairs and appreciate the opportunity to work with our Valley’s veterans and their families. We also manage crisis callouts through the Ministry of Children and Families, administered through VIHA.

Our goal is to provide thorough and detailed cleaning throughout your home or office. The final result should be the pleasure of stepping into a clean, inviting environment.

Our services include basic housekeeping for regularly scheduled clients, as well as one time, monthly, and move-in/move-out cleaning. We offer spring cleaning, deep cleaning of walls for paint preparation, full interior window cleaning, and more. We also offer janitorial services for businesses on evenings and weekends.

We use both conventional household cleaning products- such as Mr. Clean and Lysol- as well as a fantastic line of eco-friendly products from Gentle Earth. You can always opt to have us use your own preferred cleaning products as well.

We take extra care with our senior clients by keeping in touch with family and other supports. If staff recognize something that might signal a problem, we are always prepared to contact loved ones so that they can follow up.

We take pride in going above and beyond for our clients- many of whom are alone, have limited mobility, or disability. We offer a book exchange (no additional charge) for our senior or disabled clients, as well as errand service, transportation to and from appointments, and meal preparation.

We strive to offer both a comfortable and professional experience for our clients. To that end, our goal is to pair clients with a single housekeeper for regular appointments. This means you have to opportunity to get acquainted with the person coming into your home, and avoid new introductions or disruptions in routines. When staff are under the weather, we will always do our best to offer a replacement, and the choice is your own.

We are always hiring! As we strive to meet all client requests, we are continuously looking for new team members.

Employees work without direct supervision, and experience in housekeeping (or a similar field) is preferred. An ideal candidate will have experience with housekeeping or janitorial, be highly motivated, and have experience working with the public.

Benefits: We offer a comprehensive dental and medical insurance benefits plan for full time employees. We also provide company vehicles from our fleet for those who are unable to use their personal vehicle for work.
