What is your role? And what do you do on an average week?:
I am the Emrabcing Life Coordinator; it is my job to help prevent and walk with families who have experienced losing someone to Su***de/ Self-Harm. In an average week you can find me planning future events, taking in training, supporting the community or supporting my team!

What do you love about your job?:
I learn something new every day! Every day is different and on the hard days, I have my team to help me out.

What is something you love most about Quw'utsun Culture?:
I love how welcoming it is. Even though I am not from this culture, I have many Quw'utsun Aunties and Uncles that have taken me in as their own and lift me up every day.

Kwun'atsustul Team Member Feature!

Mathew Davydiuk (Mati!)

What is your role?: I am a Mental Health Counsellor

What do you do on an average week?: I primarily have facilitated therapeutic and Cultural groups. I see my role as facilitating conversations between community members and the Sul'hween. I weave in education and therapuetic concepts to help people on their healing journies. I have recently shifted towards working with youth that are struggling with mental health and addictions. I am helping to build a day program for youth that are using substances and this will be land-based and cultural program that will create opportunities for youth to engage in healing and personal growth. I also provide individual support to youth and you can find me engaging in healthy activities with them. Maybe building skateboards or fixing bikes.

What do you love about your job?: I love walking alongside community members. Getting to know families and being a part of such a vibrant community. I really appreciate that I get to be a part of healing. It is healing for me too. I learn a lot from the community members here and I feel supported at my job by Cowichan Tribes. I am grateful every day that I get to learn and grow together.

What is something you love most about Quw'utsun Culture?: What I love most is that Quw'utsun' nation has strong teachings for a good mind and good heart. I also really love the creativity and expression that is encouraged and fostered.
