5 RIGHTS OF DELEGATION
3. RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCE - When considering delegation, it is not only the task and person we need to assess but also the circumstance. Resources and environment must be carefully assessed to ensure optimal outcomes. There must be available training, supervision, and support services. These may all look different depending on the client and situation, as well as the available company policies and procedures. Safety and ethics play a major role in this decision, is this task regularly delegated in these existing circumstances? If it is not, then you are increasing the 'risk' associated with the delegation. Sometimes the client's family may be more ideal for delegation than an unregulated care provider, or ethically may not make sense. It is important to do a close review on dynamics and relationships in the individual's life and make a holistic decision using circumstance, along with all the other rights. And finally, if circumstances change, the delegating individual must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to ensure client safety. At any time, the delegator can make a decision to remove the task from delegation based on changing circumstances and the best interests of the client.
