Lots of history found during CFLA clear-out. June 1, 1970, the offices opened at 127 Ingram Street...54 years almost to the day came the decision to close.

Effective July 31, 2024, the offices of Cowichan Family Life will be closed.

The Association's Board of Directors made the hard decision to shutter our physical location due to ongoing funding shortfalls. Affordable counselling services continue for clients currently accessing our services, but new intakes and appointments are suspended until further notice. Our Healing Anger, Communicating with Confidence, Financial Literacy, and Volunteer Counsellor Training programs are also suspended.

We recognize the importance of our services to our community, and we are devastated that this is the situation. If you are in need of similar counselling services, please connect with Ladysmith Resource Center (250-245-3079), Citizens' Counselling Centre (Victoria 250-384-9934), Nanaimo Family Life (250-754-3331). If you are in urgent need, do not hesitate to contact Duncan Mental Health's Rapid Access Clinic (on Gibbons Road, M-F 10-1:30). Or contact the BC Crisis Line 1-888-494-3888.

While our office may be facing closure, our three workshop series for youth and young adults are still A GO!!

Friday are going to be full of fun for youth as we host Fun Fridays at local Duncan parks. Wednesdays from 6-8 focus on conflict resolution and communication skills for young adults (held at CV Youth Services offices) First one is tonight!

Looking for something for young folks this July? With funding support from Island Health, we are hosting a series of free workshops for youth and young adults. Held in Duncan Parks for easy drop off and pick up, on Fridays 9 am-12, kiddos ages 12-14 will play games and activities while learning communication skills. Fridays from 12:30-4:30, offers 15-17 year olds a chance to connect with other youth and build social skills. For young adults 18-24, we offer workshops on communication and conflict resolution, held Wednesdays 6 pm -8 at CFLA offices. Thank you to Dinters staff and Amber (CFLA summer student) who helped kiddos Build a Basket for Mom at Dinter Nursery today. Didn’t capture kids in pics, but over 50 baskets were made, with donations to support CFLA counselling programs💕

Just in time for Mother's Day!!

As a fundraiser to support CFLA's programs, Dinter's Nursery is once again hosting their Build a Hanging Basket for Mom event! Drop in Friday, May 10th from 3 pm to 5 pm. A selection of flowers will be available for kids to chose from to build their 8" hanging basket. CFLA staff will join Dinter's to offer their assistance.
