My goal in sharing mindfulness as group sessions is to help others experience an approach I have found to work in my counselling practice and in my own experience. Our thoughts are the foundation of our life experience, but not all of our thoughts are true! We often create a story about our lives that is startlingly negative and not particularly factual. This is an important - even life-changing- realization. Changing how you think about and respond to adversity positively affects the quality of your everyday life. Mindfulness helps us respond differently to the endless stream of thoughts and emotions that run through our minds and bodies. It helps us find compassion for ourselves, pay attention to things that matter, and break through our automated negative responses to find a way to observe our thoughts and emotions without having to respond to each one.
