*Important share from CWAV*
Drug poisonings are increasing in Cowichan and the Southern Gulf Islands. Anyone using unregulated substances faces increased risk.

If you find someone who has overdosed take the following steps: stay with them and call 911, give 1 breath every 5 seconds, and give them Naloxone.

You can grab a Naloxone kit and get your drugs checked at the Overdose Prevention Centre, 5878 York Rd in Duncan.

To keep yourself safe, follow the following tips: know your tolerance, start low/go slow, and stagger use with a friend if possible. If using alone, let someone know and ask them to check on you or use check-in services like the National OD Response service line at 1 888 688 6677 or the Lifeguard Connect app.

Together, we can save lives and reduce risk in our community.

For many men, gaming is a form of entertainment that can serve as a way to decompress from the stresses of everyday life and provide a sense of connection with other people. But for others, it can contribute to feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression.

Here's some tips to help keep your gaming healthy.

Casual gaming can boost mental health by decompressing from everyday stress, but overuse can also lead to isolation, anxiety, and depression.

Manage your thoughts, change your life

My goal in sharing mindfulness as group sessions is to help others experience an approach I have found to work in my counselling practice and in my own experience. Our thoughts are the foundation of our life experience, but not all of our thoughts are true! We often create a story about our lives that is startlingly negative and not particularly factual. This is an important - even life-changing- realization. Changing how you think about and respond to adversity positively affects the quality of your everyday life. Mindfulness helps us respond differently to the endless stream of thoughts and emotions that run through our minds and bodies. It helps us find compassion for ourselves, pay attention to things that matter, and break through our automated negative responses to find a way to observe our thoughts and emotions without having to respond to each one. Scientifically and rigorously tested, the Mindfulness X program I use provides:

  • One deep-dive into a specific element of mindfulness per session

  • Integrating information and practice with scientific evidence and insights

  • Detailed explanations covering the reasons for certain practices
