Trauma survivors don't want advice; they want to be seen, heard, believed, and validated.

While each person's experience is unique and advice may be useful in some situations, do you find it's helpful when folks offer unsolicited advice to survivors?

One of the simplest techniques to help regulate
breathing is called Box Breathing. It’s a technique
that I often encourage my clients to practice
when they start to feel anxious or feel stress is
ramping up. 🌸

As you visualize drawing a box: ✏️
📦 Inhale Slowly for 4 seconds
📦 Hold for 4 seconds
📦 Exhale Slowly for 4 seconds
📦 Hold for 4 seconds

By consciously regulating our breathing, signals
are sent to our brain that adjust the
parasympathetic branch of the nervous system. 🧐👩‍🔬
This can cause our heart rate to slow, promoting
a feeling of calm, igniting the sympathetic
system, and in turn, controlling the release of
stress hormones. Amazing. Powerful. ✌️🌻
