Who are you hiking for this year?

Every step at Hike the Valley is more than just a walk; it’s a chance to celebrate, honour, and remember the people who matter most to us, and those whose lives have been touched by the compassionate care at St. Joseph’s Villa and Margaret’s Place Hospice.

Behind every hiker is a story. Some walk in memory of a loved one. Others walk in support of someone who is still on their journey. And many simply walk because they believe in the power of community, care, and showing up for one another.

As we celebrate 5 years of Hike the Valley, we’re reminded that this event is built on the stories, strength, and spirit of our community.

The little things can make a big difference in someone’s day.

For residents, it might be a familiar taste - maple syrup at breakfast, a glass of juice, or a nutritional drink that helps when eating is difficult.

For families, it’s the comfort of knowing those needs are taken care of, so they can focus on what matters most: being together.

That’s what Wishlist Wednesday helps support each week. 💙

🛒 This week’s most-needed items:
🍁 Maple syrup
🍅 Tomato juice
🫒 Olive oil
🥤 Boost / Ensure drinks

Donations can be dropped off at the Margaret’s Place Hospice reception desk – 170 Ogilvie St., Dundas. If you’re able to include your purchase receipt, we’re happy to provide a charitable tax receipt.

Thank you for helping us care for residents in ways that bring comfort, familiarity, and compassion each day. 💙

There’s something about a familiar tradition that people really look forward to. This week, our Adult Day Program celebrated Easter with their annual Easter egg hunt! Clients explored high and low, discovering chocolate eggs in the usual spots - and a few that were a bit trickier to find!

Activities like this are more than just fun - they are an important part of our Adult Day programming. They keep participants active and engaged, provide opportunities for social connection, and add a little fun and variety to the day - all part of supporting overall well-being in a caring, supportive environment.

Wishing everyone a happy Easter season from all of us on our Campus of Care. 🐣

In honour of Music Therapy Month, we’re highlighting a meaningful part of care at Margaret’s Place Hospice - Café Connections, led by our music therapist, Kyla.

This program offers a safe, welcoming space for adults experiencing grief - can relax, connect, and spend time with others who understand loss.

Set up as a comfortable café-style environment, participants can gather over coffee or tea while gentle live instrumental music plays in the background. The music helps create a calm, peaceful atmosphere - one that allows people to breathe, reflect, and feel grounded.

Some participants choose to talk and share their experiences. Others may prefer to sit quietly and listen in a supportive space. Both are equally important. Café Connections is about meeting people where they are in their grief journey.

Through conversation, music, and shared time together, the program helps:
💙 Encourage self-compassion while navigating grief
💙 Create space to reflect on thoughts and emotions
💙 Foster connection with others who understand loss
💙 Support mindfulness and relaxation through live music
💙 Offer a gentle, supportive environment to slow down and feel less alone

Grief can feel isolating - but spaces like this remind people they don’t have to carry it alone 💙

What does compassion really mean? We asked healthcare workers from across St. Joseph’s
Health System. Compassion has always been at the heart of everything we do. To mark St. Joe’s Day, we’re celebrating the more than 10,000 healthcare workers who live our mission of Unstoppable Compassion every day.

Our mission guides us. Your trust drives us. Nothing stops us.

Behind every new program, piece of equipment, and enhanced service on our Campus of Care, there’s a story - and sometimes, it begins with the incredible work of our St. Joseph’s Villa Foundation grant writing team.

Each year, Meg Lyu and Sarah Cathrae research, prepare, and submit around 30 grant applications, securing approximately $250,000 in vital funding for St. Joseph’s Villa and Margaret’s Place Hospice. Their work helps support everything from resident comfort and safety to innovative care initiatives that strengthen our entire community.

Grant writing is detailed, strategic, and deeply mission‑driven. Meg and Sarah collaborate with staff across the Villa and Margaret’s Place, gather impact stories, build relationships with funders, and ensure every proposal reflects the compassion and excellence that define our Campus of Care.

Thanks to their dedication, we can continue to grow, innovate, and provide the highest quality of care to the people who call St. Joseph’s Villa and Margaret’s Place Hospice home.

A daughter sitting with her mom for hours. A husband who hasn’t left his partner’s side all day. A grandchild stopping by after school.

In those moments, something as simple as a warm cup of coffee or a quick snack can make a big difference. It allows families to stay close without worrying about leaving to find food or a drink.

That’s where our Wishlist Wednesday community comes in. 💙

Each week, generous community supporters help us keep the hospice kitchen stocked with small comforts for the families who spend long days (and nights) here.

🛒 This week’s most-needed items:
🍪 Individually packaged snacks (granola bars, single-serve chips, etc.)
☕️ Keurig K-Cup pods
🥣 Chicken or vegetable soup broth (Tetra Paks preferred)

Donations can be dropped off at the Margaret’s Place Hospice reception desk – 170 Ogilvie St., Dundas. If you are able to provide your purchase receipt, we’re happy to issue a charitable tax receipt for your donation.

Thank you for helping us make Margaret’s Place feel just a little more like home for the families who need it most. 💙
