If you’re a woman in your 40s who’s tired of restrictive eating, this is your permission slip to stop eliminating entire food groups… and start adding instead.

Here’s what we recommend to members who want to lose stubborn belly fat without feeling deprived:

🍳 Boost protein earlier in the day
🥬 Sneak in more fiber and veggies
🥑 Include healthy fats so meals actually satisfy you

💡 Try this: Pick one of your go-to meals and upgrade it with one simple add-on this week.

If you’re a woman over 40 trying to lose stubborn fat but it’s been a few weeks since you’ve noticed any changes, chances are your body has adapted to your routine.

Instead of doing more, try doing something slightly different.

This checklist is how we help members restart progress without burning themselves out:

✔️ Small nutrition adjustments
✔️ A fresh training stimulus
✔️ Better recovery
✔️ More everyday movement

You don’t need to overhaul everything at once.
💡Try this:

→ Pick ONE area to start with
→ Focus on it for 2-3 weeks.
→ Reassess.

If you’re a woman in her 40s+ who’s been doing all the “right things, but it feels like you’re spinning your wheels…

It’s probably time to refocus.

✔️ The minimum effective dose
✔️ Workouts that leave you feeling stronger (not exhausted)
✔️ Recovery strategies that calm your system, paving the way for change.

💡 Progress isn’t about pushing harder…

It’s about getting strategic with what works, and letting the rest go.

Member Spotlight: Amber M.

Amber M. joined Grand River CrossFit in 2022, balancing life as a busy mom and working as an officer in youth corrections. With rotating shift work and unpredictable days, routine doesn’t come easy—but Amber showed up anyway.
Before joining, Amber describes life as pouring from an empty cup.
She was juggling work, family, and everything in between, but her own health and well-being kept getting pushed to the bottom of the list. Energy was low. Confidence was low. And like so many parents, she carried guilt for even thinking about taking time for herself.
“I was a busy mom, trying to balance work and life and did not necessarily prioritize my health or well-being as much as I should have,” Amber shares.
What sparked the change? Seeing friends and co-workers thrive in their own CrossFit communities. The joy, the connection, the sense of belonging—it planted a seed.
Walking into Grand River CrossFit for the first time, Amber felt something she hadn’t expected: relief.
“Everyone was so welcoming. It was an immediate relief when I realized that Grand River CrossFit works with all ages and abilities. No one was there to judge me for what I couldn’t do. They were there to help me, and cheer me on.”
That support quickly turned into consistency—and something to look forward to.
“I quickly began looking forward to the 10am ‘riff raff’ class.”
Since joining, Amber’s transformation hasn’t been about chasing a number on the scale. It’s been about confidence, energy, and showing up stronger in her life outside the gym.
“I have a lot more confidence. I’m not as worried about the number on the scale. My goal is to have enough energy to keep up with my kids—and the gym helps me with that.”
The ripple effect has reached every part of her life, especially motherhood. By investing in herself, she’s been able to give more—without burning out.
For anyone standing where she once stood, Amber’s advice is simple and powerful:
“Don’t feel guilty. Invest in your wellness. It has helped improve all aspects of my life and motherhood.”
Amber’s story is a reminder that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential. And sometimes, filling your own cup is the strongest thing you can do.

🌟 Empowering Mindshift🌟

Meet Arielle:

“I’m actually most proud of my consistency,” she says. “It takes something to keep showing up, and it’s easy to let attendance slide. But once I got into the rhythm, it made all the difference.”

And the payoff has gone far beyond fitness.

“I’ve gained muscle, and everyday life is just a little easier now. I can carry heavier things! My mental health has improved — I know I can do hard things. I’ve relearned that it’s okay to be uncomfortable, and I’m more mentally alert and resilient.”

Changing lives for over 20 years!

2018 marks 20 years serving the community of Dunnville and beyond! It has been an incredible 20 years and we look forward to many, many more years.

When we take a moment to think about the past two decades a lot of great moments come to mind. Our martial arts students have earned Black Belts and have channeled that discipline to become nurses, teachers, police officers and successful entrepreneurs. To have been a small part of these success stories is a privilege.

Fitness that is achievable, sustainable and enjoyable has always been our focus. Our CrossFit members are redefining fitness. They are a diverse group that includes grandparents and stroke survivors, busy dads and new mothers. From seniors with mobility issues to young athletes looking to maximize performance, our style of fitness is 100% customized to each member. It doesn’t matter what your goal is, our program and expertise will give you the tools to achieve it.

We love our small town. We are members of the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce. We have raised over $6000 for our hospital, support local fitness events and contribute regularly to local groups and fundraisers. It’s a small way of saying “thanks” for all the years of support.
