Failing. . . HELP !! How do you naturally stop a rodent from taking up residence in the greenhouse?

Jess would trap their cat 🐈 in there overnight, but is lacking support from other family members-

Our attempt to put a greenhouse within a greenhouse to grow greens is proving to be a challenge. The pots are pretty much freezing, and a rodent is snacking on the rainbow chard!

Any ideas?

Remember that mixed bag of beans 🫘? Well it produced a mixed handful of beans! Will try to save and put in the ground to multiply next year ~ but they may also end up becoming children's playthings, see video in comments πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡ clearly anything at the is fair game for being playthings, including electrical ⚑️fencing!!

Have you ever gardened in the dark? πŸŒšπŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ

The darkness is advancing with each day, what a joy Christmas ( winter Solstice) will bring!!

A long time wish of our family to have an evergreen tree growing close enough to the house to decorate and see clearly from the inside, is in the works.

So here is the first attempt to grant our wish! This spruce was growing in a crowded place near the edge of the meadow, was remarkably easy to uproot. . . we shall see if it can make a new life in the cracks of the bedrock? We will keep adding more soil making material each year and cross our fingers that it thrives!

Finding credit goes to the investigative adventuring of; Iah, Ori, Amaya Rose and Jace!!

What's your favourite cabbage inclusive meal??

We shredded and froze 2 large freezer bags, sold 2 large cabbages, stored 2 large cabbages in the fridge and have this bowl for tonight's side of coleslaw and probably another meal worth!

This harvest feels good as it was not overwhelming, just enough to share, store, and enjoy, however if we ever got on the sauerkraut train we should plant more πŸ€—

For the amount of effort and time that went into this crop ( very little) it was definitely rewarding!

Cabbage πŸ«™ πŸ₯— also survived the onslaught of pest damage to outer leaves! And how lovely is this honey locust tree in the autumn glow?🌞 We hope it will provide dapple shade to the blackberry bush north of it, fix nitrogen in the soil for a community of plants, and offer a supply of leaf mulch yearly!

! Mild weather today melted all the snow. Look πŸ‘€ at this incredible brussel sprout 🌱 plant we found. The chickens decimated all but this one and we are completely amazed at what it managed to produce!

The first picture shows the whole plant ( bottom centre) , look how ravaged its leaves are, yet the second photo,up close, reveals an incredible amount of sprouts on its stout little stem

The North Forest Farm
As winter rolls in, our Wild Roots Food Forest market stand goes into dormancy. We are attempting to grow greens in our greenhouse, but it's a long shot ~ time to source some fresh local food all through the winter!
