⏳ Only Weeks Left — Let’s Go Further, Together ⏳

There’s less than one month left to make a powerful impact through Gateway Association’s partnership with Rogers Birdies for Kids, presented by AltaLink.

Every day, Gateway walks alongside individuals with disabilities and their families — offering guidance, advocacy, and real connection during some of life’s most challenging transitions. But we can’t do it alone.

👉 Right now, your donation will be matched by up to 50%, helping us reach more families who may not qualify for traditional supports — but still urgently need them.

💛 With your support, we can continue to provide the workshops, one-on-one guidance, and community connections that empower people to thrive.

Please consider making your gift today.
Your generosity goes further — and so does the impact.

⏳ ONE MONTH LEFT to Make Your Gift Go Even Further! ⏳

Since 1975, Gateway’s Family Resource Centre has stood beside families raising and supporting children with disabilities — offering support, services navigation, strength, and connection when it’s needed most.

It all began with parents who believed their children deserved a gateway to a better life.
Today, we carry that vision forward with one-on-one support, workshops, and community connections for families across Alberta.

👉 But here’s the challenge:
Not all families qualify for government funding — leaving too many without the help they urgently need. That’s where YOU come in.

OVER THE NEXT MONTH, thanks to our partnership with Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink, your gift will go up to 50% further — but only until August 31!

💛 Help us reach more families.
💛 Help us provide critical, inclusive supports.
💛 Help us ensure no family is left behind.

🔧 Employer Spotlight: Fountain Tire Westbrook 🔧
Featuring:
⭐ Nick Wingrove – Owner
⭐ Michael – Gateway Jobseeker

This week, we’re celebrating Nick Wingrove and the incredible team at Fountain Tire Westbrook for leading with empathy and inclusion.

Last fall, Workplace Inclusion Strategist Sarah French connected with Nick while supporting Michael, a jobseeker with an invisible disability and a passion for mechanics. When Sarah approached Fountain Tire about inclusive hiring, Nick didn’t even bat an eye. With a personal understanding of invisible disabilities—his brother also lives with one—Nick knew that a little support can make all the difference.

Michael joined the seasonal team during the busy winter tire rush, and thanks to Nick’s open-door approach and regular check-ins, he was set up for success. Sometimes, all it takes is encouragement and the space to learn.

When receiving his Inclusive Employer Award, Nick shared a message that captures the spirit of inclusive employment perfectly:

“Sometimes we just need to adjust our thought processes and expectations so we can meet people where they are at so they can succeed.”

👏 Thank you, Nick and the Fountain Tire Westbrook team, for reminding us that inclusive hiring is just good leadership.

💼 Employer Spotlight: The City of Airdrie 💼
Featuring:
⭐ Stephane Rainville – Recreation Operations Team Leader
⭐ Leah Caldwell – HR Business Partner
⭐ Jason McAlpine – Gateway Jobseeker

We’re proud to spotlight the City of Airdrie for their outstanding commitment to inclusive hiring!

Jason, a courteous and dedicated jobseeker who previously worked 17 years in one role, faced career disruption during the pandemic. When a role for Arena Attendant opened up, Jason applied—and our team connected with Leah Caldwell from HR to explore the opportunity further.

Leah’s openness to meaningful conversations about inclusion led to a smooth interview process with Stephane Rainville, who saw Jason’s potential right away. With strong onboarding support and a team culture rooted in inclusion, Jason was successfully hired—and now, over 9 months later, he’s thriving in his role!

Stephane and the entire Rec Operations team continue to stay connected and supportive, showing what’s possible when employers lead with empathy, equity, and collaboration.

👏 Thank you, City of Airdrie, for building a workplace where everyone belongs!

🥞 Stampede spirit was in full swing today as our team joined two incredible community events that embody inclusion, creativity, and connection!

We kicked things off at the Pancake Palooza hosted by , .mardaloop , and community partners—an arts-filled, welcoming celebration of all things local. From live music to vibrant conversations, it was a beautiful reminder of what community can look like when everyone is included.

Then we made our way to one of our favourite inclusive employers, Inglewood location, for their Stampede breakfast—and we have to say, the pancake toppings were next level! 🍓🫐🍫 We’re grateful to connect with employers who lead with values of accessibility, representation, and belonging.

Thank you to everyone who made today so special! 💛

🎳 Employer Spotlight: Shehzana Ikram – Splitsville Highfield 🎳

Meet Shehzana Ikram, the incredible leader behind Splitsville's Highfield location in Calgary, and her team! Shehzana connected with Gateway Association in July 2024 after attending a local Chamber of Commerce event—and since then, she’s been a true champion for inclusion in her workplace.

In Fall 2024, Shehzana hired a Gateway jobseeker—and get this—no additional onboarding support was needed from the Gateway team! That’s a testament to the strong, collaborative culture she’s cultivated, where every team member is valued and supported.

Shehzana’s commitment to creating a welcoming space extends to both her customers and staff, fostering a naturally inclusive environment that reflects the values of community, belonging, and respect.

Did you know? Calgary is home to four Splitsville locations—the most in any Canadian city! So next time you’re planning a night out, consider supporting a local business that’s knocking down all the right pins when it comes to inclusion.

💥 Way to go, Shehzana and team! 💥

🌟 Meet Maya – Neurodivergent & Thriving! 🌟

Maya MacIntyre is a familiar face in our Gateway community — a former employment program participant, youth leader, and now, an inspiring pageant delegate using her platform to advocate for disability inclusion and neurodiversity awareness.
Through her journey with Gateway, Maya embraced her learning differences and grew into a confident self-advocate and mentor for others. Now, as Miss Teen Okotoks, she’s taking the stage nationally to launch her advocacy platform: Neurodivergent & Thriving. 💚

Maya’s message is bold and powerful: "Learning differences are not setbacks — they are strengths." Her platform focuses on:
✨ Educating about neurodiversity
✨ Sharing real stories and lived experiences
✨ Changing the narrative so all learners feel seen, supported, and empowered

We are SO proud to support Maya as she uplifts others with honesty, heart, and courage. 👑 Let’s cheer her on and help her amplify her message across Canada! 📣

Here’s how YOU can support Maya:
✔️ Follow her journey on Instagram
✔️ Vote for Maya during pageant week (link coming soon!)
✔️ Support her GoFundMe to help with competition costs
✔️ Share this post to spread her message of inclusion!

💫 Maya, thank you for continuing to lead with compassion, strength, and purpose. You truly are a queen — in the Gateway community and beyond!"

The day I got diagnosed with ADHD, I felt like I was finally free in my mind. I spent so many days feeling dumb and stupid for not learning the same as most of my classmates or coworkers. The comfort of my doctor saying, “You have ADHD.” My whole life, I've been told that it's just my personality or that I just need to work harder.
