I lived there for a long time—especially with my family.

What I didn’t realize back then was this:

It wasn’t just the relationship.

It was what was happening inside of me in the relationship.

But even deeper than that...the stories, the beliefs around the stories, all impacted my actions on the surface and were all happening on AUTOPILOT with little to no awareness.

That changes how everything lands.

If you’ve been snapping at your family… and regretting it right after—this is for you.

Not because you’re a bad parent or partner.

But because you’re overwhelmed… and stuck in a loop.

You’re the one people rely on.

You handle things.
You solve problems.
You show up.

But at home?

You’re more reactive than you want to be.

Shorter fuse.
More tension.
Same arguments.
That quiet feeling of disconnection creeping in.

And the worst part?

You see it happening…
and still feel like you can’t stop it in the moment.

I know that place.

For a long time, I thought pushing harder was the answer.

Hold it together.
Be better.
Try harder.

But that approach?

It slowly erodes the relationships that matter most.

What actually changes things is this:

Learning how to stay steady under pressure.

Not perfect.
Not passive.
Not suppressing.

But regulated. Present. In control of your response.

That’s the work I do now.

Parenting changes fast.

One day they’re climbing into your lap.
The next, they’re closing the bedroom door.

When our daughter withdrew during her early teen years — right as diagnoses were coming in and life felt chaotic — I reacted the way many parents do. I tightened control. I tried to manage outcomes. I mistook pressure for protection.

It didn’t work.

In fact, it widened the gap.

What shifted everything wasn’t a new parenting tactic. It was a belief shift.

I had to look at the meaning I was assigning to her behaviour. I had to regulate my own nervous system before trying to manage hers. I had to soften without losing leadership.
