It’s well-known for most people that their digestion is affected by stress. An obvious example is when you suddenly have to go to the bathroom when you’re feeling anxious (nervous poops anyone?)
But what might not be as obvious to you is what we call gut-brain axis dysfunction, which is essentially a disruption in the communication between your gut and your nervous system. This is actually an underlying issue in the vast majority of IBS cases and the thing is, it isn’t always a clear linear relationship. By that, I mean that it isn’t the kind of thing where it just acts up when you are acutely stressed or anxious about something. It is an ongoing two-way dysfunction that can result in digestive disruption and mood disruption - even when you’re not in a stressful moment!
The good news is, there are many different ways to address this dysfunction. As a naturopathic doctor, I get to spend the time necessary with you to look deeper into your digestive and mood issues, and come up with a comprehensive plan to address it. Come see me at The Meadow Clinic in Hinton, or we can work virtually from anywhere in AB!
