So you’ve decided you want to see a psychologist, but with so many qualified professionals out there, how do you choose who to go and see?

Finding a psychologist you vibe with, and someone who is the right fit for your needs, is important to consider when making this commitment.

Making sure you feel heard, seen, and comfortable talking to someone is so important when opening up about challenges or areas or growth.

Some things to consider when looking for a psychologist:
- Request a phone consult.
- Communicate what you are looking for/your counselling goals.
- Ask about the psychologist’s style, therapeutic approach, techniques, education and training.
- Communicate your style of processing (if you are aware of this) i.e. cognitive, body based, creative expression, etc.
- Would you prefer virtual or in-person sessions?
- What will the financial investment be and/or do you have benefits?

What are the factors that help you perform? What gets in the way?

It is important to consider that at any given point in time, our circumstances, mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual, can impact how we perform.

This waterfall flows down a mountain in and around rocks, performing in the winter months as it is capable of in the warmer seasons. Although there are now the added barriers of snow and ice, it continues to perform.

Athletes can face many challenges in sport such as:
- performance anxiety
- managing and recovering from injuries
- internal and external pressure
- sport/life balance
- lack of motivation
- managing criticism and feedback
- identity concerns
- transitioning out of sport
- grief and loss
- burnout

In seeking support, and building mental strength, athletes can manage these challenges and enhance their mental and physical capacity to perform in their sport.
