So you’ve decided you want to see a psychologist, but with so many qualified professionals out there, how do you choose who to go and see?
Finding a psychologist you vibe with, and someone who is the right fit for your needs, is important to consider when making this commitment.
Making sure you feel heard, seen, and comfortable talking to someone is so important when opening up about challenges or areas or growth.
Some things to consider when looking for a psychologist:
- Request a phone consult.
- Communicate what you are looking for/your counselling goals.
- Ask about the psychologist’s style, therapeutic approach, techniques, education and training.
- Communicate your style of processing (if you are aware of this) i.e. cognitive, body based, creative expression, etc.
- Would you prefer virtual or in-person sessions?
- What will the financial investment be and/or do you have benefits?
