ct of my spiritual care is the understanding of the spiritual life as a journey. God is a God of process who companions with us in our journeys of becoming the people we were created to be. This process-orientation makes room for life to be messy, unexpected, complex, and adventurous. It also makes room for us to be more aware of God with us on the journey, wherever we are, working in and among us in our ordinary lives. My understanding of spiritual care can be summed up as companioning with others to explore and notice the ways that God is at work in the situations they’re in – to honour the journey by acknowledging the truth of it, as well as the hope of it. Life is messy, and that can be painful, scary, mysterious, exhilarating, hopeful, or any combination of these. To make space for each of these things in our journey is to be authentically human. I provide spiritual direction to people who are interested in exploring, growing, or wrestling with their spirituality. Traditionally, this occurs via 60-minute sessions in person, over the phone, or via zoom. I also offer a written version of spiritual direction, in which the directee sends in written journal reflections and receives written feedback from me. Group spiritual direction is also available. Please visit my website at www.beckymoritzbonham.com for more information, and to read my latest ponderings on the blog. Suggested fees are provided on the blog, but a sliding scale is available to all who need it. Discounts for students and parents of young children is also available. I offer a free 30 minute consultation session to see if we are a good fit. I look forward to connecting with you! Education:

Hi everyone! It looks like my professional page went inactive for awhile - not sure why 🤔Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I did a few updates on my webpage - after a lengthy period of neglect. Hopefully I'll be able to update - and expand - over the coming year!

Also, I recently started a public Instagram page, called .wander.wrestle. I tend to be writing shorter posts there, since I'm *supposed* to be writing for school! Feel free to check it out and follow! (Link in comments)

I met with my spiritual director today. The sunshine is lovely and so I started outside, but the birds' exuberant squawking was so loud I had to move inside so Nancy could hear me over the phone. 🐦 🎶 I started spiritual direction with Nancy over 15 years ago, because I needed help peeling back a few layers so I could figure out what going on behind the surface levels of my emotions and experiences. She has been such a faithful companion, journeying with me through the adventures and challenges of isolation, longing, motherhood, changing beliefs, vocation, and grief, among other things. She has met me with tenderness and wisdom, and pointed me toward joy, hope, and continued growth. Most of all, she has pointed out how God continues to show up in my life, even when I thought I was alone. So grateful for spiritual direction on my journey!

My part-two blog post has now turned into part-two-of-three! Here's the middle post. Job encountered great suffering, and while his friends accused, blamed, and shamed, he responded to his experience by creating his own choreography. Along the way, he encountered a deep knowing that guided his steps. Let's take a look at Job's wrestling moves!

In my previous post, I wrote about suffering and the unhelpful response of “painsplaining” – or trying to explain another’s pain. This attempt to find an “answer” to make sense of suffering leads only to more despair, self-doubt, or even to a denial of suffering altogether. In this post ...

Don't be a painsplainer!
My latest post - including Job's Anti-Painsplaining Tips!

In the hardest moments of our lives, when our suffering and loss shines brightest like a gaping wound, our voices break as we cry out with the question of “Why?” Why is this happening? Why me?? For those of us who believe God is in some way overseeing our lives, the questions behind the question...

God who bids me welcome,
I welcome you.
God who holds all keys,
unlock the door to my Self.
God who knows sorrow,
sit with me in my sorrow.
God who embodies hope,
let it arise in me.
God who welcomes strangers,
I welcome you,
I welcome myself
to the mystery
of my own becoming.

B is for Becoming

B is for Becoming. This word comes up in just about every spiritual conversation I have, so that some of my soul friends have begun to smirk each time I mention it. Almost a decade ago, my friend Anne offered it to me as an alternative word to the two I was struggling to hold in tension: being and d...

Morning Pages (aka Brain Drain) as a Spiritual Practice

Last night, I started reading the book, The Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron. I bought it on a whim after noting how many people raved about it to a friend who had asked for recommendations on books about writing and the creative process. With a subtitle like “A Spiritual Path to Creativity,” ho...

Naming the Loss

Naming the Loss

Loss weighs down on me today. I can neither deny ignore understand or dismiss it today. There is no healing reconciling hoping or pressing in today. Maybe tomorrow. For now perhaps it is enough to name it and to say the words: I wish it didn’t have to be this way.

A is for Adventure

Adventure. Over the years, this has become one of my favourite words to describe my spiritual journey. On a first hearing, it may bring to mind the sorts of adventures we love most: those characterised by exploration, discovery, travel, inspiration, and imagination.

The Artist and Little Miss What-the-Hell

Years ago, when I first started spiritual direction, my spiritual director sent me a book* with a goofy title that depicted critical voices as gremlins with colourful personalities. She asked me to read through and find “my” gremlins. And that is how I met The Artist and Little Miss What-the-Hel...

Forgiving Again.

A long time ago, someone was a jerk to me over email. I pressed in with earnest communication and healthy boundaries at the time and then moved on, with little more than an inward eye roll on the rare occasions when the jerk came to mind. Recently, our paths nearly crossed again, and I found out the...
