At MIC, our state-of-the-art Siemens 3T MRI, the most powerful MRI in northern Alberta, enables our radiologists to detect 90% of clinically significant prostate cancers. This advanced imaging technology reduces the need for painful re**al biopsies for approximately one in three men.

Current methods of prostate cancer screening, such as digital re**al examination, blood tests, and family history, may not always accurately detect the presence of cancer. These traditional methods can sometimes miss the early signs of prostate cancer.

When is Prostate MRI Recommended?
Prostate MRI is highly recommended for patients with a family history of prostate cancer, elevated PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) blood test results, or abnormal findings during a physical examination. This advanced imaging technique provides a more comprehensive and accurate assessment of the prostate gland, enabling early detection and timely treatment.

Here's a couple more questions we asked Dr. Ackerman :

- What was your childhood dream career?
I wanted to be an astronaut until about age 5, but pretty much always wanted to be a doctor after that. I had an uncle who was an orthopedic surgeon, that I looked up to. Once I got into medical school, I realized that radiology was what I loved.

- Is there anything else you’d like to share?
When I am not working, I love to spend time with my family at home and the lake. I love golf, hockey, curling (even though I am not great at any of them), and traveling with my wife.

Join us in congratulating Deb on an incredible milestone – her 45th work anniversary at MIC Medical Imaging! 🌟 Since starting with us in 1979, Deb has been a cornerstone of our team, demonstrating dedication, professionalism, and expertise.

In 1979, when Deb began her journey with us:

💿 The first Sony Walkman was released, revolutionizing how we listen to music.

🇨🇦 Joe Clark became the Prime Minister of Canada in June 1979, representing the Progressive Conservative Party. However, his government was short-lived, and he lost a vote of confidence in December.

🏒 The Edmonton Oilers was one of four teams that joined the NHL.

⛽ The average cost of a gallon of gas was just 86 cents!

Throughout these 45 years, Deb has witnessed the evolution of medical imaging technology and played a vital role in our growth and success. Her commitment to MIC in her work inspires us all.

Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: When I was young, my dream was to become the next Julia Roberts. However, as I grew older, I realized acting wasn't my path. I always wanted to work in healthcare. I chose the Medical Administration course to start my journey and joined MIC right out of school in 2007.

A: I feel honored to be showcased during Women in Health Month. It's important to recognize that every department in healthcare plays a crucial role.

A:My parents instilled in me the belief that I could be and do anything. They supported me through all my phases and allowed me to pursue my passions without limitations. When I decided that I wanted to be a fashion designer, they gave me sketchbooks and paired me up with my grandma, who patiently showed me how to bring my creations to life on her sewing machine. When I said that I wanted to be an astronaut, they encouraged me to reach for the stars.

🙌 Did you know that MIC Medical Imaging accepts all types of requisition forms?

✔️ Even if your doctor gives you a referral with a different logo or color scheme, you can still book your exam at MIC.

📍 While the forms may appear different, most providers offer similar imaging services across various city locations (MRI, ultrasound, mammography, etc.).

👍 This means you have a range of options for your next diagnostic imaging exam!
