Alliance Counselling and Assessment is a non-profit mental health organization committed to making counselling and psychological assessment services accessible to all individuals, regardless of financial barriers or insurance coverage. We believe that everyone deserves access to high-quality mental health care. Through ongoing fundraising efforts, we can subsidize session fees, ensuring that our clients receive professional support while our therapists are fairly compensated. Our diverse team includes experienced registered therapists, provisional psychologists, Canadian Certified Counsellors, mental health therapists, and graduate students, all of whom bring a wealth of training and clinical expertise. At Alliance, we are proud to offer a welcoming, inclusive, and client-centred environment where mental health support is both affordable and effective.

Mental Health and Money Stress

Financial stress is mental stress.

It affects sleep, relationships, decision‑making, and self‑worth.
You’re not weak for feeling overwhelmed , you’re navigating a system that wasn’t built for ease, especially here in Alberta where the cost of living continues to rise.

If money is a barrier to accessing support, we offer a sliding scale.
Your wellbeing shouldn’t depend on your income.
You deserve care that meets you where you are.

Roots

Mental health is like a root system.
What’s visible doesn’t tell the whole story.
Support, safety, and connection nourish us underground.
You don’t have to bloom to be growing.
You don’t have to be seen to be healing.

Kindness Is a Mental Health Strategy

Pink Shirt Day isn’t just about standing up to bullying, it’s about building communities where people feel safe to be themselves.

Kindness isn’t soft.
It’s a mental health strategy.
It reduces isolation, interrupts shame, and creates space for healing.
In Alberta, where stigma still silences too many, kindness is resistance.

Let’s wear pink today, and practice what it stands for every day.

Midweek Check-In

Midweek reminder: You’re allowed to be tired.
You’re allowed to not be okay.
You’re allowed to ask for help.
Mental health isn’t linear, and healing doesn’t follow a calendar.
Check in with yourself today.
Then check in with someone else.

The Quiet Power of Showing Up

You don’t have to be loud to make a difference.
You don’t have to have all the answers.
You just have to show up.

Showing up looks like:
- Listening without judgment
- Checking in, even when you’re unsure what to say
- Holding space for someone’s story
- Being present, even in silence

In Alberta, community care often starts quietly.
But its impact is loud.
It builds trust. It reduces shame. It makes healing possible.
So today, honour the quiet ways you’ve shown up; for others, and for yourself.
They matter more than you know.

Hope Grows When Community Shows Up

Across Alberta, people are gathering, preparing, and showing up for conversations that matter.

With the Mental Health Foundation’s Annual Fundraising Breakfast happening tomorrow, there’s a shared energy in the air ; one rooted in hope, recovery, and the belief that every Albertan deserves support.

Events like this remind us of something powerful:
Mental health isn’t an individual journey.
It’s a community responsibility.

Every donation, every conversation, every shared story helps build a province where stigma loses its grip and care becomes accessible, compassionate, and human.

So today, take a moment to honour the people doing this work ; the advocates, the caregivers, the survivors, the supporters, and the everyday Albertans who keep showing up for one another.

Hope grows when community shows up.
And Alberta is showing up.

Community Is Medicine

When life feels heavy, community can be the thing that steadies us.
Not because it fixes everything, but because it reminds us we don’t have to carry things alone.

Community shows up in small ways:
• A neighbour checking in
• A friend who listens without trying to solve
• A workplace that makes space for real conversations
• A province that keeps pushing for better access, less stigma, and more compassion

These moments matter.
They shape recovery.
They soften isolation.

They remind us that mental health isn’t an individual project, it’s a shared responsibility.
When we support each other, we create conditions where healing becomes possible.
Community doesn’t replace professional care, but it strengthens the ground we stand on.

The Power of Saying ‘I Don’t Know’”

There’s a quiet kind of courage in admitting “I don’t know.”
Not the loud, performative kind—just the honest, human kind that lets your nervous system exhale.

In a world that rewards certainty, productivity, and having a plan for everything, not knowing can feel like a personal failure. But it isn’t. It’s actually a moment of mental health clarity

You’re allowed to be in progress.
You’re allowed to pause before deciding.
You’re allowed to not have it all figured out.
“I don’t know” isn’t a dead end.
It’s a starting point.

🌱You’re Allowed to Be New at This

We don’t talk enough about how uncomfortable it can feel to be a beginner — at setting boundaries, at resting, at asking for help, at unlearning old patterns, or at trying something healthier than what you’re used to.

Being new at something doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’re learning.
It means you’re trying.
It means you’re choosing a different path than the one that hurt you.

If you’re in the early stages of change, give yourself permission to be new.
Every skill starts with a first attempt

🔄 Unlearning Hustle Culture

Not every season of life is meant to be productive.
Rest isn’t a reward , it’s a requirement.
If your body is asking for slowness today, that’s wisdom, not weakness.
You don’t need to earn your right to pause.

🧩Invisible Cognitive Load

The mental load you carry; planning, remembering, anticipating, worrying — is real work.

Even when no one sees it.
If you feel tired, it’s not “in your head.”
It’s the weight of everything you manage quietly.
You deserve rest, not guilt.

🌱Mental Health and Weather Whiplash

Alberta’s rapid weather swings affect mood, energy, and stress levels more than people realize.

Alberta’s weather can shift seasons in a single day ,and our bodies feel it.

If you’re more tired, tense, or unfocused during sudden temperature or light changes, that’s a real physiological response, not a personal failure.
Be gentle with yourself as your system adjusts.
