This week marks one that is near and dear to us: Nurses’ Week! We are so thankful for the incredible nurses across our Park Place communities who help bring compassion, dedication, and thoughtful care to our residents.

Each month, we highlight a STRIVE story from across our communities, which are examples of how our values show up in everyday moments. This month’s strive story comes from our sister location, Agassiz/Glenwood:

“A dedicated working group was established to improve the environment of the BSTN Care Unit, specifically for residents requiring specialized dementia care. The initiative centers on creating a comforting, home-like setting by incorporating thoughtful design, sensory comfort, and familiar elements. This approach aims to support the emotional well-being, dignity, and daily experiences of residents, reflecting a commitment to person-centred care. By fostering a sensory-friendly and familiar atmosphere, the program helps residents, families, and staff feel engaged, supported, and at ease. Ultimately, the initiative promotes dignity and well-being for residents while also bringing joy and purpose to families and staff, strengthening connections and creating a greater sense of home for everyone involved.”

This is just one example of how nurses across Park Place Communities continue to support meaningful experiences for our residents and help improve the quality of life for those they care for. We are so grateful for all of the nurses out there.

Each month, we highlight a STRIVE story from across our communities, which are examples of how our values show up in everyday moments.

This month’s STRIVE story is from our sister location, Greystone Manor in Maple Ridge, BC:

The staff room at Greystone was transformed from an unwelcoming space into a comfortable and inviting area through budget-friendly renovations, including new furniture, artwork, and personalized touches. This upgrade provides staff with a safe and pleasant place to take breaks, boosting morale and satisfaction. In addition, active participation in resident committees and the introduction of guest speakers have helped residents feel heard, supported, and engaged in their community. Both staff and residents appreciate the improvements, which have fostered a sense of belonging, open communication, and a more positive environment for everyone.

When residents feel heard, confidence grows. When teams feel supported, they show up more consistently. Consistency in care builds trust, and trust is the foundation of every strong community.

During National Volunteer Week, at Sprucewood Place Housing Community, we want to thank the incredible volunteers who help make our community feel even more special.

Whether it’s sharing a conversation, helping with activities, or simply bringing a smile to one of our residents' faces. Volunteers play such an essential part in enriching the lives of our residents and helping our seniors community thrive.

To each and every person who has volunteered with us, your kindness, generosity, and time truly make such a big difference and are so appreciated. Thank you for all that you do!

Each month, we highlight a STRIVE story from across our community. These stories reflect what we stand for as an organization and showcase how we strive for excellence in everything we do, through meaningful connection, clear communication, and exceptional senior care.

We believe seniors should feel supported both physically and emotionally. Daily life can present unique challenges for those living with dementia, which is why we focus on creating thoughtful, comfortable living spaces that feel like home.

Why does being Canadian and family-owned matter in senior care?

For us, care is personal. Founded in 1993 by Al and Jenny Jina, Park Place Seniors Living has remained proudly Canadian-owned and family-led for over 30 years.

Being both Canadian and family owned means leadership is closely connected to every residence, and we make every decision based on our residents’ needs.

We make sure our care teams are supported and equipped to provide the best care possible. In turn, they are able to take the time to get to know each resident on a personal level, so everyone in our community feels seen and valued.

And because we stay connected at every level, each community reflects a deep understanding of the people it serves. No two are exactly alike, and that’s intentional.

Each month, we highlight a STRIVE story from across our community. These stories reflect what we stand for as an organization and showcase how we strive for excellence in everything we do, through meaningful connection, clear communication, and exceptional senior care.

Caring for others is meaningful work, and it takes heart. Across our Park Place communities, we are committed to supporting the well-being of our teams so they can continue showing up with energy, compassion, and focus. When our staff are cared for, the entire community benefits. Creating spaces where they can rest and recharge is one small but meaningful way we put that commitment into action.

This month’s STRIVE story is from The Wellington in Medicine Hat, Alberta:

Thanks to the Alberta Care for Staff Grant, the staff room was renovated into a comfortable and welcoming space where team members can rest, recharge, and connect. The upgraded room features calming music, a communication link for important updates, and a cozy atmosphere that fosters relaxation and team camaraderie. This environment helps reduce stress and burnout, improves mood and resilience, and strengthens teamwork and morale by providing a shared space for staff to support one another. The team is deeply grateful for the grant and the positive impact the new space has had on their well-being and ability to provide exceptional care to residents.
