Hmmm! What to do with cut down Lee Magazine Enfield barrels?

I know!

Going to taper down them and use for replacement barrels on two of my Lee Enfield Carbines that are pitted and worn out rifling.

Almost done a Ross M1905 MKII with MKIII rear sight. Top one. Still need to make the rear handguard for it.

Bottom is a Ross MKII three star stock set.

A bit slow going this week. I think i have a hair line crack in my right big toe. Happens when you drop something heavy while wearing steel toe sandals!😜

New Ross mid bands came in today! Machined from solid steel!

Did up a 3d drawing for the volley sight plate. Thinking i may get them made in blank form and have metal stamps made for the MLE, SMLE and P14 ranges.

As far as threads are concerned. Reproduction ones will have modern threads.

According to a post by London Small Arms Co Ltd page. September 2020 post i quote

What was the Enfield Inch:-

"The first major hurdle became evident during the production trialling phase at Pratt & Whitney, prior to the machinery
being sent to Lithgow from the US. The issue was that, unbeknown to anybody outside of the Enfield Factory in England,
the British were using two different measurement standards. Anything below 2 inches was measured against a local Enfield
standard that was ā€˜four tenths of a thou’ (0.0004 of an inch) shorter than the true Standard Imperial Inch that was used for
dimensions over 2 inches. (More details on this can be found in the book titled The Enfield Inch & The Lithgow .303, copies of
which reside in the Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum.)"

The book mentioned in that post is available however i do not know if drawings are available in it.

Does anyone have a copy of it?

I have to give Numerich gun parts corp a call next week to see if the will be getting anymore p14 volley sights in.

If not… well going to have to do drawings 🤦. I realize the smle has a shorter indicator. That isn’t a problem however the range dial maybe different. Have to call my local buddy!

Never ends! The quest continues.

Picture is an p14 volley sight, original.

Waiting on new midbands. Another couple of weeks for them.

Top is a mkii 3star stock. I believe i posted awhile back .

Bottom is a mkii with a mkiii rear sight. Haven’t fitted it yet.

Both are going to the same customer in the usa.

The mkiii rear sight isn’t the same as the 1910 mkiii rear sight.

It has a flat top and the top handguards are different.

Once they are finished i’ll post the results !

My plan is to have short finished product videos on my website and YouTube with information about the history of them.

Ross rifles especially mkii’s can be very confusing!

Been going hard lately Taking some time off to head to the bush! Lol

Hopefully by end of next week I’ll have a working pattern for the smle mki rear sight protector wings.

Additionally i will have a new MLE magazine lee enfield midband heading to the factory to get machined in solid steel . Really happy with the LEC parts i got.

Fresh off the duplicator.

Top is a MLE/ Long Lee Enfield without the clearing rod cutout.

Bottom stock is for a CLLE. Charger Loading Lee Enfield.

Long lees were converted by adding a charger bridge like on the N1 MKIII rifles. Also the rear sight was changed to be adjustable for windage. Plus a front sight protector .

Hence the step down in the stock behind the magazine cutoff well.
