Start your day feeling calm, clear, and refreshed 🌤️

Busy mornings and packed schedules can make stress creep in before the day even begins. The good news? Small, intentional habits can help your body and mind reset.

Try these simple tips to support a calmer start:
• Slow, calm breathing
• Gentle muscle relaxation
• Light movement or a short walk
• Leaving space in your schedule
• Focusing on what you can control

Anxiety is common and you’re not alone. With the right tools, it can become easier to manage one breath, one moment at a time.

You don’t need a full workout to take care of your body.

Small habits done consistently, moving more, standing up often, breathing deeply, stretching gently all add up.

Your body thrives on regular movement, not perfection.

Dealing with stubborn pain that just won’t go away? Radial shockwave therapy can help stimulate your body’s natural healing response when other treatments haven’t worked. It’s a non-invasive treatment used for conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, tennis elbow, shoulder pain, bursitis, and more.

The effects of the treatment are cumulative, so you will typically need more than one (3–5) treatment. Very often though, patients will experience relief right after the first treatment.

Shockwave helps kick-start tissue healing, while guided rehab exercises help keep the pain from coming back.

🏃‍♂️ Off-Season Running: Train Smarter This Winter

When race season ends, the off-season isn’t about stopping; it’s about resetting. A smart winter approach helps reduce injury risk, rebuild strength, and set you up for stronger spring running.

Focus on easy mileage, strength training, mobility, and cross-training to support your body without overloading it. Winter is also the perfect time to address lingering aches, check your footwear, and fine-tune your running mechanics.

At South Edmonton Physical Therapy & Sport Rehab, we help runners stay healthy year-round with assessments, rehab, and personalized training support, so your off-season becomes your advantage.

Tendonitis occurs when a tendon becomes irritated from repeated stress or overuse, often affecting the shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, or ankles. It can cause pain, tenderness, stiffness, and weakness near the joint.

Addressing tendonitis early is important to prevent ongoing irritation and compensation. Physiotherapy focuses on reducing stress on the tendon, restoring movement, and gradually strengthening the area so you can return to daily activities and sport with confidence.

Movement doesn’t have to be intense to be effective.

Everyday movement like walking the dog, playing with your kids, carrying groceries, or simply getting up and moving throughout the day, all helps keep your body strong, flexible, and resilient.

These small, consistent movements support joint health, improve circulation, and help your body handle daily demands with less stiffness and strain.

Real life is movement and it all counts.

👣 What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis occurs when the thick band of tissue along the bottom of your foot becomes irritated from repeated stress. It often causes sharp heel pain, especially first thing in the morning or after long periods of standing or impact activity.

Factors like tight calves, poor foot mechanics, inadequate footwear, and high-impact activity can increase strain on the plantar fascia. If left untreated, compensation patterns can develop and lead to knee, hip, or back pain.

Physiotherapy focuses on reducing stress on the foot, calming inflammation, and improving strength, mobility, and alignment to support long-term recovery.

Massage therapy is more than relaxation. It helps reduce pain, improve movement, and support recovery from injury, postural strain, and everyday stress. In a clinical setting, treatments are tailored to your goals and often work best alongside physiotherapy for a more complete approach to care.

Curious about how massage therapy can support your recovery?

Protect Your Neck 🚗

Your car’s head restraint isn’t just for comfort it plays a major role in protecting your head and neck during a collision and helping reduce the risk of whiplash.

To get the most protection, make sure your head restraint is adjusted to the height of the top of your head and positioned close behind it. Sitting more upright, like in an office chair rather than a recliner, can also help reduce neck strain in the event of a rear-end collision.

Small adjustments can make a big difference in keeping your neck safe.

"Can my physio order x-rays?"

In some cases, physiotherapists can request imaging such as X-rays, MRI, or MSK ultrasound to help guide treatment decisions. While a thorough assessment often provides the information we need, imaging may be recommended if there’s concern about things like fractures, joint issues, or soft tissue injuries or if results would change your treatment plan.

While only physiotherapists with additional certification can order imaging, at South Edmonton Physical Therapy & Sport Rehab, our team-based approach ensures you’ll be supported if imaging is needed.
