🧡 On September 30, Chartwell residences across Canada honoured the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with reflection, creativity, and care.

One of the most meaningful moments took place at Chartwell Whispering Pines, where Kim, a friend of the residence and member of the Ojibway community, led residents and staff in a traditional smudging ceremony. Her guidance reflected the same spirit of remembrance and hope shared across our residences.
At Chartwell Fountains of Mission, residents celebrated Rose, whose life story embodies resilience and strength. Meanwhile, residents of Chartwell Martha’s Landing joined a community gathering filled with songs, stories, and powerful speeches from Indigenous voices. In Okotoks, those at Chartwell Royal Park learned about the Blackfoot story of the Big Rock, deepening their connection to the land and its history. Over at Chartwell L’Unique, an educational quiz and documentary screening inspired thoughtful conversations on truth, understanding, and reconciliation.

Every meaningful activity echoed one important message: Every Child Matters.

L’un des moments les plus marquants a eu lieu au Chartwell Whispering Pines, où Kim, membre de la communauté ojibwée, a dirigé une cérémonie de purification traditionnelle. Sa présence reflétait le même esprit de souvenir et d’espoir partagé dans l’ensemble de nos résidences.

Riverboat Queen Adventure
All aboard! On Friday, September 12th, our trip on the Riverboat Queen was an evening to remember.
We boarded at 6:30 PM, and by 7:00 PM we were “cruising down the river… on a Friday afternoon.” Residents gathered on the main deck — or as Bob lovingly called it, the “poop deck” — sipping beer and wine while taking in the stunning views of Downtown Edmonton, the river valley, and nearly every bridge in the city!
The atmosphere was pure joy — it felt like one giant party on the water! We laughed, waved at everyone along the river, snapped lots of pictures, and simply enjoyed each other’s company as the sun set over the city.
We even made it home in time for the 10 o’clock news — a perfect ending to a fantastic evening.
For one resident, this trip was extra special — the Edmonton Riverboat Queen was the last riverboat in all of Canada that he had yet to travel on. I’m so happy to hear that he has now checked an item off his bucket list!

Aloha! Our Hawaiian Pineapples & Palm Trees event brought tropical vibes, laughter, and delicious treats to Griesbach!

Residents had a blast testing their skills with pineapple & coconut bowling — though coconuts don’t always roll in a straight line, it didn’t stop anyone from giving it their best shot! We also enjoyed a lively Hawaiian tiki toss, where friendly competition and plenty of light-hearted jeering filled the air.

No Hawaiian celebration would be complete without a feast, and Chef Rachel outdid herself! Residents enjoyed a mouthwatering spread of fresh pineapple, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, a Pineapple Berry Slush, and a refreshing Summer Salad. Each bite brought a little taste of paradise.

From the games to the decor & tropical treats, it was a day full of sunshine, fun, and fruity delights — a perfect escape to the islands without leaving home.

August gave us sunshine, adventures, and a few surprises along the way!

We kicked off the month with Rock’n August's Show & Shine at the A&W on Hebert in St. Albert — admiring shiny classic cars, humming engines, and even meeting the friendly A&W bear (does anyone know his name?). Before heading home, we all were treated to a Frozen Root-beer Float!
The month had a few twists too… we tried to make it to the Rock’n August dance party, but the rain had other plans . Still, nothing could stop the fun because — thanks to a lucky wrong turn — our Chartwell bus ended up right in the Classic Car Parade! Cruising alongside the classics like we were part of the show? Unforgettable.
We also soaked in the magic of music at the Symphony Under the Sky, enjoying beautiful melodies under the open summer sky. Truly a night to remember! We JUST missed the rain.

August reminded us that sometimes the best memories are the unexpected ones.

We’re a little late sharing, but July was too good not to look back on!

We kicked off the summer with sizzling Elk Island BBQs, complete with a cozy bonfire, laughter, and plenty of good food (we shared with the seagulls).

Then came Christmas in July on the 25th, where Chef Rachel pulled out all the stops with a true holiday feast — turkey, stuffing, ham, potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and more. The festive backdrop made for some wonderful photo fun too!

Our adventures didn’t stop there. On our trip to Peaceful Valley, we enjoyed golf cart rides, a hearty hamburger lunch, and some friendly lawn games that brought out everyone’s playful side.

Back home in MCU, residents are taking great pride in their garden 🌿🌼 — tending, watering, and watching it thrive day by day. As well as, getting creative in our summer flower art.

July was full of memories, and we’re so grateful to everyone who joined in making it special.

Things got downright udderly ridiculous at Chartwell Griesbach this Friday afternoon during our Manager Barnyard Races—and residents couldn’t stop laughing!
We had quite the lineup of “Manimals” (that’s manager + animal, in case you’re new to our barnyard lingo). Taking their places at the starting line were:
🦈 A sassy Shark
🐶 A perky Puppy Dog
🐞 A lovely Ladybug
🐯 A feisty Tiger
🐸 A surprisingly spry Frog
🦄 And a Unicorn who brought sparkle to the speedway

Residents placed their “bets” (no money involved—only pride and bragging rights!) on which Manimal would take the title in each of the three epic rounds.

Our amazing residents helped with the gameplay by rolling two dice—one to choose which Manimal would move, and the other to determine how many spaces they’d dash forward. It was dicey business!
The Results?
🏁 Game One: Shark swam straight to victory!
🏁 Game Two: Tiger pounced past the competition!
🏁 Game Three: The Frog hopped his way to glory!

There were giggles, cheers, and dramatic photo finishes. We even heard some residents calling for a rematch—“That Ladybug was robbed!”

All in all, it was a hilariously wild afternoon of friendly competition, silly costumes, and nonstop fun. We’re already dreaming up the next Manimal showdown... will the Unicorn make a comeback? Will the Puppy Dog finally have his day? Stay tuned!

Drag Show Bingo: A Night to Remember!

Last night, our community turned up the fabulous as we welcomed the sensational Ladonna Cree, an incredible Indigenous Drag Queen, as our Special Guest Bingo Caller!

With big laughs, bingo daubers flying, and a whole lot of pride, residents battled it out over 1-Line, Picture Frame, and Full Card wins — but that wasn’t all!

Our lucky winners had to square off in hilarious head-to-head challenges to claim the grand prize! From a fierce cup stacking competition to an unforgettable lip-sync battle, the energy was electric! A special shout-out to Phyllis & Evelyn for absolutely stealing the show with their moves — those boots were made for walking!

Before the festivities, residents showed their support for the LGBTQ2+ community with vibrant Pride tattoos — a beautiful show of allyship, inclusion, and love. ❤️🧡

Grab a 'Stache & Join the Bash!

We celebrated Father’s Day in style — with laughter, great company, and some very dashing mustaches! As residents and guests took their seats, they were handed their choice of fun and fuzzy 'staches… and let’s just say, the photo ops were legendary!

Chef Rachel outdid herself (again!) with a mouthwatering spread of mini corndogs, crispy onion rings, fresh watermelon, donuts, mini sandwiches, deviled eggs, chocolate cake, and vanilla swirl cake. Every bite was a tribute to the awesome dads and father figures we were honouring.

It was a day full of hearty laughs, full plates, and full hearts.
Thank you to everyone who helped make it a Father’s Day to remember!

Better Late Than Never… and Worth the Wait!

Although a spring outbreak delayed our original plans, our Mother’s Day High Tea in early June was nothing short of spectacular!

Residents and guests gathered for a beautiful afternoon filled with love, laughter, and an incredible spread — including deviled eggs, dainty tea sandwiches, and desserts galore: Nanaimo bars, caramel cake, strawberry mousse, chocolate brownies, and berry cups. We even had a veggie platter with Hummus that looked like a mom's face and a selection of specialty teas to sip and savour.

It may have come a little later than planned, but the joy, conversation, and togetherness made it more than worth the wait. Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate the amazing mothers in our lives!

Big news from Chartwell Griesbach: Our Indian Runner Ducks have graduated!

In just 3.5 weeks, these little waddlers went from fluffy babies to lanky-legged sprinters — they’ve grown like weeds on a mission!
They made quite the splash during their time here — literally — enjoying daily dips in our outdoor pool. They loved diving for food, splashing around like pros, and showing off their best synchronized swimming moves. Afterward, our residents jumped into action as official “duck spa attendants,” towel-drying and warming up our little stars.
We even hosted duck races to find the fastest flapper in the flock. The results? Hilariously chaotic. Instead of following the track, those clever little quackers jumped lanes and made a beeline for their friends, patiently waiting for their turn. Let’s just say… it wasn’t about the speed, it was about the style.
Today, we bid them a fond farewell as they head off to their new home at Prairie Gardens — a duck paradise with a massive open enclosure, a cozy barn to sleep in, and a whole bunch of wild ducks to chat with. We’re so proud of our awkward, adorable graduates.
