Thank you so much to everyone who joined us for our first Compassion in Action event! 🙏🏻♥️

Today was a successful turn out because of our fantastic volunteers who helped us create a smooth process of muffin preparation and baking and made for a quick distribution of over 200 muffins to our local communities and houseless population in need.

We anticipate holding more Compassion in Action events this year to help our local communities and community members in need. We would love to have you all join us for the next one!

A special Thank you to Geshe La for leading prayers and helping us set compassionate intentions for our efforts today as well! 🙏🏻♥️

Spiritual Director Kushok Lobsang Dhamchöe welcomes new and returning students to join him for a one-day Shantideva retreat on Cultivating Patience. This retreat will provide valuable information about how to manage life’s difficulties through learning how to overcome anger and find inner peace.

In this retreat, Kushok will continue his commentary on the Patience chapter of Shantideva’s Way of the Bodhisattva. Shantideva presents patience as one of the six essential perfections that an altruistic person must cultivate on the path to enlightenment. In this chapter, he offers a profound and poetic exploration of how to understand and practice patience, not in a passive way, but in an active, wise response to suffering, harm and adversity.

Kushok requests that students make every effort to attend in person as the benefits of receiving these Teachings at the knee of the Lama are immeasurable. A zoom link will be provided a few days before to those registered for the zoom link and are unable to attend in person.

Please visit our website: www.gsl-ab.ca to learn more about event, what to bring and what the schedule consists of.

Thank You! Tashi Delek 🙏

We hold immense gratitude for the volunteers of Gaden Samten Ling Alberta Centre for Peace and Meditation 🙏🏻♥️

Our society is lovingly sustained by volunteers, and it is through your quiet dedication, steady presence, and sincere offerings of time and energy that this centre continues to be a place of refuge, practice, and peace. Every act of service whether visible or behind the scenes is a meaningful contribution that supports the flourishing of the Dharma and the wellbeing of all who pass through these doors.

We bow with deep appreciation to our precious Spiritual Master, Kushok Lobsang Dhamchöe, whose unwavering compassion, patience, wisdom, and guidance are the true foundation of our community. His teachings illuminate the path and remind us, again and again, of the importance of kindness, effort, and a sincere heart in both practice and daily life.

It was a true joy to gather together for a lovely dinner in honour of our volunteers at the beginning of December. It was a simple yet heartfelt moment to pause, connect, and rejoice in the collective effort that holds this community together.

We extend our sincere thanks to Nicole for lovingly preparing the meal, offering her care and generosity through nourishment that brought warmth and togetherness to the evening. We are also deeply grateful to Sarah, our volunteer lead, for her thoughtful organization and coordination of this gathering, and for the steady care she brings to supporting our volunteers.

We rejoice deeply in the merit created through all volunteer service and dedication. To each and every one of you, Thank you for your generosity, your care, and your commitment to peace. We are profoundly grateful to walk this path together.

We hope to continue forward into the new year and many more years to come with a growing, stable and strong volunteer community! ♥️🙏🏻

On Sunday, December 14 we celebratied Gaden Ngamchöe, Je Tsongkhapa Day.

This special day commemorates the parinirvana (passing away) of the incomparable great master Je Tsongkhapa – founder of the Gelugpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

Je Tsongkhapa, a highly realized meditator and teacher who authored the Lam Rim Chen Mo (Great Stages of the Path to Enlightenment) to help future practitioners achieve the fully enlightened state of Buddhahood, free from all obscurations, so they could help all sentient beings find this state of happiness and peace.

We are deeply grateful for our Spiritual Teacher Kushok Lobsang Dhamchöe and Geshe Lapsum for leading the Lama Chöpa Puja today and for their continued guidance, patience and blessings of wisdom and beyond.

“The essence of all spiritual life is your attitude to others. Once you have pure and sincere motives, all the rest follows.” – Lama Tsongkhapa

We extend our deepest gratitude to our precious Spiritual Master, Kushok Lobsang Dhamchöe, for compassionately guiding us through our five-day Manjushri Retreat.

To practice so deeply under the guidance of our Teacher, and in the presence of such wisdom and kindness, is a rare and profound blessing. We hold this opportunity with great reverence and joy. 🙏🏻

Manjushri, the embodiment of transcendent wisdom, reminds us of the clarity that cuts through confusion and ignorance and brings the gentle intelligence that awakens understanding and compassion within the mind. Through this retreat, we were invited to cultivate these qualities both on and off the cushion and to dedicate the positive efforts made in our practice to benefit all sentient beings.

We offer heartfelt thanks to Dyna So for her boundless generosity and care in preparing nourishing, delicious meals for our retreat participants throughout the entire week. Her offerings were an expression of deep kindness and support for the practice. Thank you Dyna! ♥️

Finally, we extend our sincere appreciation to all the organizers, volunteers, and participants who helped make this retreat possible. Your dedication, effort, and harmonious cooperation are a true offering to the society. We are filled with gratitude and rejoicing for the collective merit created together.

In our Tuesday Lam Rim class, Kushok shared the importance of developing a steady and joyful effort in our meditation practice so we can overcome the two common pitfalls of agitation and dullness. When we cultivate strong alertness by keeping our attention on the meditation object, we begin to develop clarity and stabilization in our focus.

Kushok guided us in the practice of concentrating the mind on the Buddha image. Through this method, we aim to recall and remember every detail of the Buddha, allowing the image to become vivid, bright and familiar in our minds. Kushok reminded us that we must hold a strong, steady focus without being pulled away by outer sensory distractions or by the inner noise of our own thoughts. Mental dullness can cloud our practice, and distraction can easily draw us away from the clarity and stability we are working to build.

As the Lam Rim text explains, “When there is no developed clarity in our practice, it is as if a darkening shadow has fallen over the image.”

It is essential that our focus is neither too tight nor too loose but gently balanced, so true stabilization can develop.

We are deeply grateful for these inspiring teachings and for the opportunity to practice them directly in class. May Kushok’s guidance continue to ripple outward and benefit all sentient beings on the path toward enlightenment.
