It allows muscles to move joints quickly and so it is essential for sports performance, injury prevention and fall prevention. It must be trained differently from strength. Contraction speed is important. Exercises like plyometrics, sprinting, jumping and hopping exercises are some examples.

Tendinopathies are challenging to treat. They respond best to a graduated strengthening program that also involves plyometric or power exercises. They are slower than muscles to respond to strength programs and they decondition to baseline within 2 months of stopping an exercise program! We spend long hours with our bodies in bent forward postures like sitting, driving, gardening and cleaning. Rarely, do we ever exercise our spinal and hip muscles in the opposite direction of extension especially from neutral spine to inner range of extension. If all you have is a physioball at home, try these exercises. Start easy and progress as you get stronger! How can we make a squat more difficult? Lowering the depth of the squat. Not allowing yourself to sit fully. This maintains tension under load. Using a metronome to dictate pace or speed.
