We caught up with panelist, Dr. Colleen Norris at the Alberta Blue Cross women’s health panel about the health changes women are often told to “just live with” and why they deserve more attention.

Better conversations around menopause matter. Because understanding what’s happening in your body shouldn’t start after you’ve already been struggling for years.

This season we made memories that went far beyond the final buzzer. As proud title sponsor of the Calgary Hitmen group experiences, we watched young hockey players and youth groups experience that magic of game day. We also had the privilege of visiting Ronald McDonald House with the Oilers Foundation, bringing joy to kids and families who needed a reason to smile.

Yesterday, nearly a year after the launch of our Women’s Health Hub, we came together with team members for an engaging and meaningful conversation on women’s health, rooted in learning and shared experience.

Moderated by Margaret Wurzer, director of Benefits Design and Strategy, the panel included an exceptional group of experts and advocates:
• Dr. Shazma Mithani, MD, FRCPC local emergency physician and passionate women’s health advocate;
• Dr. Colleen Norris, Professor and Associate Dean of Research at the University of Alberta and a leading voice in women’s cardiovascular and perimenopause health research; and
• Melanie Fuller, head of wellness at Alberta Blue Cross.

Together, they explored women’s hormone health across the lifespan, self-advocacy in healthcare and the realities of perimenopause and menopause—while thoughtfully unpacking myths and misconceptions. A powerful thread throughout the discussion was the importance of creating workplaces and communities where these conversations can happen openly, without stigma.

The conversation centered on the positives and privileges of these milestones, embracing each stage with knowledge and compassion. Attendees left with trusted information, accessible resources and a strong community of support. 💙

We’re excited to share a full recording of the event so you can experience these incredible learnings and resources too. Stay tuned on our social channels for more information and key takeaways coming soon.
