Some signs of hearing change are loud and obvious. Most are not.

You might find yourself turning the TV up a little more than you used to. Asking people to repeat themselves in restaurants. Feeling unusually tired after a long conversation, almost like your brain worked overtime to keep up.

These are early signs worth paying attention to. Hearing changes happen gradually, which is exactly why they are easy to brush off. The sooner you understand what is happening, the more options you have.

A hearing check is simple, comfortable, and gives you real answers about what your ears and brain are doing.

Ever notice how the ringing in your ears feels louder the moment your head hits the pillow?

There is a reason for that. During the day, your brain is busy filtering through traffic, voices, music, and background noise. At night, all of that quiets down, and tinnitus has nothing to compete with. The sound was always there. Now it just has the room to itself.

This is one of the most common frustrations we hear from patients, and it does not mean something is getting worse. It means your environment changed.

Several strategies can help, from sound therapy to personalized care plans built around how your tinnitus actually behaves.

If nighttime ringing is keeping you up, let's talk about your hearing. Book a consultation at www.hearinedmonton.com or 780-488-4008

May is World Hearing Month, and we are marking it with something we are genuinely excited about.

On May 30th, we are hosting Hear it for the Brain, a free in-person educational event at The Creative Hive. If you have ever experienced ringing or buzzing in your ears, trouble following conversations, or mental fatigue after noisy environments, this evening was built with you in mind.

Hearing changes are often dismissed as a normal part of aging. The reality is that untreated hearing loss and tinnitus place added strain on the brain and are linked to cognitive decline, social isolation, and increased dementia risk. The encouraging news is that early action genuinely changes outcomes.

The event is presented by Kari Weisgerber, RHAP, BC-HIS, a Board Certified Registered Hearing Aid Practitioner with over 20 years of clinical experience. Kari is also a Certified Tinnitus Care Provider and a Certified Dementia Care Provider, with a strong focus on the relationships among hearing, cognition, and quality of life.

Every attendee receives a complimentary copy of Kari's book, Hear it for the Brain, a practical guide to understanding hearing loss, tinnitus, and how informed hearing care supports brain health and independence as we age.

Free to attend. Light refreshments included.

May 30th at The Creative Hive 1, 16819 111 Avenue NW.

Hosted by Hear in Edmonton Tinnitus and Hearing Loss Treatment Centre.

To every mom who has spent years really listening. To the bedtime stories read out loud, the worried phone calls answered at midnight, the quiet conversations on the drive home from school.

Hearing is how so many moms show up for the people they love. It is woven into the small moments that make a family feel like a family.

Today is a good day to thank her, sit close, and let her hear every word.

Happy Mother's Day from all of us at Hear in Edmonton! ❤️

If the ringing in your ears has become the loudest part of your day, this event is for you.

On May 30th, we are hosting Hear it for the Brain at The Creative Hive, a free in-person event focused on something most people are never told. Tinnitus and untreated hearing changes do not just affect your ears. They place real strain on the brain and are linked to cognitive decline, social isolation, and increased dementia risk.

The evening is led by Kari Weisgerber, RHAP, BC-HIS. Kari is a Board Certified Registered Hearing Aid Practitioner with over 28 years of clinical experience, a Certified Tinnitus Care Provider, and a Certified Dementia Care Provider. Tinnitus care is one of her specialties, and this event is a chance to hear directly from someone who works with it every day.

You will learn why tinnitus often feels worse over time, what the latest research says about the hearing and brain connection, and what real treatment looks like beyond simply living with the noise.

Every guest also takes home a complimentary copy of Kari's book, Hear it for the Brain.

Free to attend. Light refreshments included.

May is World Hearing Month, and it's a chance to talk about something that affects far more people than most realize!

Hearing is not just about your ears. It's deeply connected to your brain, your memory, your focus, and how engaged you feel in the world around you. When hearing changes go unaddressed, the brain has to work harder to fill in the gaps, and over time, that can affect cognitive function in ways most people never connect back to their hearing.

The encouraging part is that early action matters. A simple hearing check can open the door to clarity, better conversations, and care that supports both your hearing and your brain health.

This month, consider it your reminder. If it has been a while, or if you have been wondering, take the first step.

No two people experience hearing loss or tinnitus the same way.

The sounds you hear, when they show up, how they affect your sleep or your ability to focus, what your daily life looks like, and your personal health history. All of it matters when it comes to building a plan that actually works for you.

That is why we do not take a one-size-fits-all approach.

When you come in, we start by listening. We want to understand your full picture before we recommend anything. From there, your treatment plan is built around your specific needs, your lifestyle, and your goals for feeling better.

For those living with tinnitus, that might mean sound therapy, counselling support, or targeted tools designed to help quiet the noise so you can focus on what matters.

For those experiencing hearing loss, it means finding solutions that fit the way you actually live. Not just a device, but a plan that helps your brain and your hearing work together more effectively over time.

This is what personalized care looks like.

If you are ready to understand what is happening and explore what treatment could look like for you, we would love to talk.

Book your appointment and let us start building your plan!

It is one of the most common and most overlooked causes of hearing changes!

Earwax is actually a natural and healthy part of how your ears protect themselves. But when it builds up, it can block sound from reaching the eardrum and create that frustrating sense that everything sounds muffled, distant, or like you are listening through a wall.

You might notice voices that are harder to follow than they used to be, a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear, or sounds that feel slightly off, no matter how much you adjust the volume.

What you should avoid is trying to manage it at home with cotton swabs or other tools. These can push wax further in and sometimes cause more irritation than relief.

We can take a proper look and help you find out if earwax is the reason your hearing feels off right now.

If it is, there is a simple, comfortable solution waiting for you.

Let us take a look. Book your appointment today.

Learning never stops, and neither does Kari's commitment to bringing the most informed, up-to-date care to her patients here in Edmonton.

Kari recently travelled to Arizona to deepen her knowledge of tinnitus treatment and had the opportunity to connect in person with Dr. Keith Darrow, a Harvard and MIT-trained neuroscientist and audiologist with over 20 years of experience in hearing health care.

Dr. Darrow is a leading voice on the connection between hearing, brain health, and the prevention of cognitive decline. He is also featured in "Hear It for the Brain", the book at the heart of the educational work we do here at the clinic.

We are proud of the dedication that drives this practice forward.

If you are curious about what personalized, informed hearing care can look like for you, we would love to connect.

If the image that comes to mind is a bulky, beige device that whistles and draws unwanted attention, you are picturing a generation of hearing technology that no longer exists.

Today's hearing aids are a completely different experience.

They are small, sleek, and designed to sit discreetly behind or inside the ear. Many are barely visible at all. Some connect directly to your phone, allow you to stream audio from your television, and give you full control through an app.

The technology has come a long way. And so has what it can do for your brain.

Modern hearing aids are not simply about making sounds louder. They are designed to help your brain receive clearer, more complete sound information. That matters not only for subsequent conversations but also for memory, focus, and cognitive health over time.

A lot of people put off getting their hearing checked because they are not ready to deal with what they imagine the solution will look like.

We understand that completely. And we want you to know the solution looks very different from what most people expect.

Come in and see for yourself.
