Message from .star.designs Today is Indigenous Peoples Day 🌸

Indigenous people are paving the path to a better world. A world where the lands and waters are protected. Where our younger generations are taught the stories of their ancestors. Where each of us have communal love and care. Where we learn to live in harmony with one another and the land.

Indigenous people are resilient. We are always at the frontlines of systemic change. We are protesting pipelines and advocating against resource extraction. We are participating in all levels of politics and lobbying foreign, colonial governments. We are enduring systemic racism in colleges, universities and law schools. We are still finding our path forward: learning from elders, finding community, and speaking our truth.

Being Indigenous is such an incredible gift that I thank Creator for everyday. Every Indigenous person I’ve ever met has incredible gifts that protect our planet, protect our children and protect our future. It’s important to celebrate who we are, where we came from and where we are going. There is a future for all of us - and it will be led BY us.

In the words of Robin Wall Kimmerer: “Even a wounded world is feeding us. Even a wounded world holds us, giving us moments of wonder and joy. I choose joy over despair. Not because I have my head in the sand, but because joy is what the earth gives me daily and I must return the gift.”

🌻🌙⚡️💦🌿

Non-Indigenous folks: support an Indigenous person today (and everyday). Buy our art, music, and books. Watch our documentaries and listen to our stories.

"You know how every once in a while you do something and the little voice inside says, 'There. That’s it. That’s why you’re here.' …and you get a warm glow in your heart because you know it’s true? Do more of that." ~Jacob Nordby

May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia! Written by Youth Worker, Ian Brown:

Leaders “don’t allow violent and hurtful things to be said to, or about, 2SLGBTQ+ people, [they let] everyone know that they are valued and can exist safely in the space. Symbols of support such as pride flags, ‘safe space’ signs, and introducing pronouns in our daily practice are important, but the most proactive way to create a safer space is setting an explicit boundary against violent, hateful, and hurtful language and actions against 2SLGBTQ+ people, while teaching and modelling accountability for the impact of that behaviour.”
