Been a hot minute, but I wrote a blog post!

It has been a hot minute since I sent anything along. For some, though you've been working with me for a while, this is your first experience of me invading your inbox!

In follow up to my post yesterday (which I have deleted). Thank you to all the community and neighbours who have offered insight and support. On behalf of myself and my colleagues at Northland Counselling Group, we would like acknowledge that some found the post insensitive to the individual in question and apologize for the strong statement. Repeated vandalism has been costly and left us feeling vulnerable. With the help of our online network, we have been able to make connections and have offered support.

Starting September 7th I will be back in the office! I will be available for sessions Wednesdays from 9:30 am - 7:30 pm and Thursdays from 9:30 am - 2:30 pm. My calendar is officially open for booking clients and I am looking forward to reconnecting.
As a heads up, though I am returning to work, I will continue to be primary care for my kiddos. This may mean I have to stay home if they are unable to attend their programming due to sniffles, etc. If I’m home with my older son, phone or video sessions may be manageable. However, if I have a toddler underfoot I will need to rebook. Of course, I will do my best to give as much notice as possible.
I hope you enjoy the remainder of the summer holidays and are able to have some fun adventures.
See you soon!

It seems my somewhat regular newsletter has now taken to being a bi-yearly touching base. Quite mind boggling that another six months has passed since I sat to write. Thankfully, despite challenges, life has been full of things I am grateful for. This fullness has kept me in a bubble that is both de

Today is a day for learning and reflection, but it cannot be just today. Though my education exposed me to our country's history, the recent news solidifies the atrocity and the need for us to all do more work towards reconciliation and healing.

Last week a friend shared Indigenous elders have been speaking about the importance of readiness and now is the time. The world at large is ready to hear from the spirits, to hear the truth.

As a family we plan to continue learning more and to share with others about the importance of doing so. Kids are not too young for conversations that are shared with honesty and care. There are amazing resources available to help. Reading together is one of my favourite ways... https://www.cbc.ca/books/48-books-by-indigenous-writers-to-read-to-understand-residential-schools-1.6056204

While non-denominational, they acknowledge that the majority of individuals experiencing homelessness in identify as Indigenous First Nations, and therefore, incorporate Indigenous ceremonies in their practice. With the heat wave in they could use extra help.

I stand in solidarity with the Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island, now colonial known as Canada. Let us amplify Indigenous voices today and always.

Thank you to all who have connected to ask about my family in . We are lucky no one close has been lost to the virus. However, tension is high and the need for help is real. If you are able and feel inclined, I have first hand experience with the charitable organization .vidyalaya which works in very remote regions of India. In my research, are also all sound options.

A few days back, my dad reminded me it takes thousands of drops to fill a bucket, including simply telling others about the need which exists. A good reminder to be a vessel of care, as I was feeling my contribution would be too miniscule to matter.

This photo is of my jasmine which has been flowering the past few days... a smell I cannot get enough of, and such a stark reminder of India that my heart hurts...
